Advice - Trading 116520 for a 116610LN

Unlike all the avid collectors on here, I only have 1 watch - a white faced 116520 that I have purchased from an AD and worn for around 9 years. I've been thinking about selling it and buying the current iteration of my favourite watch - the Submariner.

- Can anyone recommend the simplest and easiest way to sell the watch?

- Would it be easier to service / polish the watch at RSC before selling (the watch has never been serviced or polished )?

- Is it really difficult to buy a Submariner-C from an AD nowadays? Seems like they were everywhere w/ discount when I was looking (but that was many years ago).

Any comments or advice is appreciated. Thanks~

I will keep the 116520 as i m sure it will appreciate more as SS Daytona is no longer in production. The SS sports model are too hot now therefore unless u willing to pay extra dollars via grey else its rather hard to pick up from AD.

Yes subs are tough to find but not impossible, I would go get your name on a list at an AD (or a few) and list your Daytona here and on CWC, it should go quick if priced well. Keep the deal within Canada if possible, makes things much easier

Reach out to some Trusted Sellers and see what you get offered.

Simplest & easiest way is to trade your Daytona to a Trusted Seller here. With current market value of the 116520 you will probably get some money back. If it was me though I will try to keep the Daytona & get the Sub-C.

I would not sell that Daytona for a sub. But if you really want to, I will trade you my sub + cash!

Same advise. I will keep the SS Daytona no matter what.

If I were purchasing a daily-wearer watch, I'd choose a Sub over a Daytona any day of the week. But if I already owned a Daytona, I don't know that I'd consider a Sub a worthy trade. These days, I'm also in favor of adding to the collection, rather than "cannibalizing" it - even if the additions are few and far between.

But if you are convinced you want to do the trade, as others have said the easiest way is to offer it in trade to a trusted seller or reputable pre-owned dealer. You won't get quite as much for it as you would selling it privately, but you avoid the headaches and risks. As for getting your hands on a Sub, it depends on how quickly you want it. If you want the best purchase price and are willing to get on a list and wait, buy from an AD and simply sell the Daytona for cash to a dealer. If you just want to be done, then do the trade with a dealer who has one in stock and pay the premium.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I'll hold on to the Daytona and look for a Sub.

THIS! What a great answer.

I think in this specific case, I would rather add to the collection. Or maybe a more useful way to frame the question, if in 30 years time the value of the 116520 was worth what you see the older versions of Daytona's now, would you have preferred to spend $8.5k of insurance to prevent yourself from feeling bad about it?

I personally would keep the Daytona and figure out making a move for the Sub.
