If I’m patient will I eventually get the watch I want from an AD?

I’m looking to get a Daytona (just every other person here) and since it’s my first Rolex I have no purchase history with an ad. It’s been about 1.5 years now and it FEELS like my turn will never come up.

Since this is my first time I was wondering if I will eventually get one (with enough time) or will the reference cycle out before I can buy my 116500? I’m not willing to pay the current grey market prices and was thinking if I should instead start to look for something that is more available. TIA!

Your odds aren’t great. Crazier things have happened though I guess.

Wow, over 9 years browsing TRF, and you decided to make your first post. I hope you have found this site as knowledgeable as I have.

As others have stated, the chances of you living in CA (a larger metropolitan area) with no purchase history is slim. It is possible, however, I wouldn’t bet on it. I hope you can pick it up. Cheers mate!

Depends on how patient you are thinking. I remember at the very very end of the cycle you could buy 116520’s fairly easily. But then that was also after 12-14 years of price increases, so maybe Gray prices there would have been easier.

Brilliant.

As stated earlier, 9 years before you first post. You are indeed a patient man. Do you travel much? Getting out and about you may get lucky. But just waiting on a single AD which you have no relationship with probably isn't gonna cut it.

I get out a decent amount and in addition to all the ADs in the Bay Area I've stopped in Washington, Oregon, Hawaii, Mexico City, Japan, Taiwan, London, and Paris. Though, I have learned that an incredulous laugh has no language barrier!

I think my AD recently mentioned that one needs to have purchased $75K in merchandise from the shop to be eligible to buy a ceramic Daytona.

With enough time, possibly.

Last AD I walked into told me there's an 8-10 year waiting list for an SS Daytona. How patient are you? :)

If I was going to play the long game with an AD for a Daytona I’d put my name on the list on a few different ADs, rather than relying on one to give you the call.

Mmmmm be careful with that , I had my name down at a few goldsmiths and wos and was told to pick one AD to avoid looking like a flipper

If you travel internationally, check the ADs in the airports.

I would just move on as it's not looking good. It's your first Rolex, why did you pick this ref? So many other choices and you picked the most hyped in demand watch, what did you expect? Can't believe people wait this long for a watch. I would have gotten another model or manufacturer long before 1.5 year wait.

You are lucky to be on a phantom list with no prior purchase history.
I can't even get on a list period.
All the airport ADs I've been to are just as sad (no SS in stock)
Or all hiding in the back safe.

Pick a different reference or go another brand.

You need to understand their is no real list. Its just that Sales persons list of people to call with no purchase history you won't get called 100% for that watch. That watch is for customers who spend money on watches yearly.

Drop in every month, keep talking to your AD contact, best you can do unless you want to go Grey. You never know, they may take pity on you or just get sick of you. Either one will do.

In addition, if by chance you got hold of the coveted piece, make an effort to buy more often from that AD. A relationship can work both ways. I happen to value that relationship that AD is giving me for a chance to own said timepiece.

Good luck!

Probably not going to happen. Ask to see the list, your name may not even be on it.

Sadly but I don’t see you’re able to get a Daytona from them anytime soon or years. If you can afford to buy from grey market just do it.
