Diamond vs Batons

So if there was not a 2k premium on diamond dials and they were the same price as a baton dial would you get the diamond dial? I like diamond dials myself for certain models especially the Datejust line. Love the serti sub also. I just don’t believe the dials are worth a 2k premium. That being said when paying 10k for a watch get what you want. So if it’s diamonds get it. Just wondering why most on TRF don’t prefer diamond dials and they are super soft on the second hand market.

For me, if they were the same price, I’d probably still go batons. Crazy?!

For me personally, I dont love the bling of diamonds and I like simplicity of batons. The diamonds are a little too scream for me...

For me my watches are more Jewelry than watch. I wear no other jewelry so I prefer diamond dials on Rolex watches. The good thing is diamonds are usually not much more than Batons on the secondary market.

Me too. It hurt spending 2k more but in the grand scheme of things I’d rather spend 11k on something I loved rather then 9k on something I liked a lot. That being said I have the rhodium diamond dial with gold hands and with the reflective glass when people ask me the time it takes a good 10-15 seconds to tell them. They are probably thinking this dick is trying to show off His diamond Rolex. When in reality I can’t see the dial well enough. Lol.

I generally don’t like diamonds, but when they replace batons and maintain the shape (DD40 for instance), its a very understated and interesting look that I really like.

You have to remember Rolex uses the best colour and clarity for their diamonds hence the extra premium

I would never wear a watch with diamonds. But I’m sure it looks good on other people.

I'm not into diamonds. I don't think they look bad, they're just not my taste.

Depends on the watch. I like the diamonds long thin diamonds on the day date 40. Other than that not really a fan of them on the sport models

Absolutely not. If diamonds were cheaper I’d spend more money not to get them. I do not like gemstones on men at all, rings included.

I would murder all of you for a new Serti-dial submariner.

(And, no, the halfhearted kinda-Serti dial that showed up in the first few years of the ceramic sub doesn't count.)

So the baguette style. Not the round stones?

Interesting to see some would pay a premium for a non diamond dial. I think on certain sports models having the lume in better but on the DJ and DD models I really like diamonds. Those watches scream anyways. (Especially with the fluted bezel) Might as well get a megaphone lol.

I 100% agree with all of this. I couldn't have said it better myself.

I see this every now and again and I just don't get why it has to be said this way. As if there's something wrong with a man wearing a diamond watch or any diamond jewelry. If you don't like diamonds that's fine but a man wearing diamonds doesn't make them less "manly".

I love my 116613LN! It's got the perfect amount of diamonds (not too many), the dial face isn't too flashy and I don't think I would like the Sapphire baguettes on a traditional Serti. Oh, and it's TT so most around here would REALLY hate it.

To be honest, if I had a two-tone ceramic sub that'd be the one I'd want. But I'd still prefer a "proper" old-school Serti dial with full gem markers. I love that look the same way I love the traditional cream and brown Root Beer -- there's just something charming about the old-school aesthetic.

I think my "dainty" TT DJ36 with diamond markers punches way above its weight, as far as "wrist presence" is concerned. I am a larger fellow with barely 7" wrists, and smaller pieces can get lost on me. I also think the markers make for a less cluttered dial on the smaller watch, despite the bling.

That’s exactly why I like the diamond dial. Less cluttered. I think the Batons sometimes overpower the watch. Or even give it a dated look. Diamond dials only bling under certain lighting. I feel for the most part they fly under the table. That being said the jubilee with fluted and diamond dial punch way above its weight. I would say that combo rivals even the DD for wrist presence. (Not status)

Well, at the time I bought mine, it was around a $10k premium and not just $2k. I don’t regret it one bit and would absolutely do it over again if given the chance. I agree with Coralfarmer.....it really depends on the watch.
