What are you guys using to test the accurancy of your Rolex?
Guys, I’m just wondering- what are you all using to test the accuracy of time keeping?
Is there a way for those of us who do have any access to purpose made, accurate equipment? Maybe there isn’t anything without investing in proper equipment?

Hodinkee has an app for your tablet or phone or just use the time on this forum. I just checked and they are both spot on with each other.

Nothing.
If not accurate, I adjust it.

WWV time broadcasts on 5, 10 and 15 mHz with my ICOM shortwave receiver.
That's for when I do timing accuracy tests, usually just on new watches. After that I pretty ignore my watches timekeeping.

The clock on my apple computer is as near as makes no difference, as accurate as an atomic clock. I just check my watch against that. It's not something I do often, generally when I have a new watch to understand what it's running at. Then I periodically check it, once every couple of months to make sure it hasn't changed much. I'm not super concerned with accuracy, but I do use my watch to check the time.

When I cared enough about it time.gov. Now I just use my phone, I'm not really concerned about a few seconds

I use the Hodinkee Watchville app.
It had an analog display with a five second audible countdown before the start of each minute. Makes it really easy to sync your watch to it. |

I like that one too but I find myself not really checking the accuracy of my watch anymore. I will set it when I set the date every other month and it is typically within 30 seconds or so of the correct time.

I have a timegrapher, I only use it on watches I am buying or have recently purchased. For the watch I wear daily, I use my iPhone. If it says the same number, I'm good. I really do not get too concerned with it.

I use a cool app called ‘Twixt’.
You take a photo of your watch and place the indicators on the hour and minute and second hand depending on what style of watch you have. Then 18 to 24 or whatever hours later you go back, take another photo, and it tells you how accurate it is to the second. You can have multiple tests going on simultaneously. Get a timegrapher machine... It's inexpensive machine ($150) that can tell you within 30 seconds... And it can tell you more than just the rate (fast or slow in seconds) and Amplitude as well... No need to wait 24 hours or weeks to find the result.
If you're wearing a 10K watch, what's a $150? Skip a dinner with the wife and kids and it pays for it :) . Use it for a day and get most of it back and take the wife and kids for dinner. |
