Matress shopping
What a pain in the you know what.
My goodness. Spent hours and days with the misses. That said finally came to a decision. Anyone else know my pain???? Good thing we only have to do this once every decade or so.

Hi Eliot:
I have to do. Not looking forward to it. What did you settle on, if I may ask? DM

Stearns and foster luxury plush pillow top. We like them over hybrid or memory foam. Took a while but we got there. I care far less than my wife but she is happy.

I'm on my 2nd select comfort and couldn't be happier. I need a soft mattress the wife needs firm. We can both adjust it the way we want. The latest models now have a ton of more features, can't wait to upgrade. Mine is 9 years old and still holding strong.

Thanks Eliot.
Before sears closed down, I tested a few mattresses. But I don't think a few minutes will predict how one would feel after a sleep cycle.

I am also on my second Select Comfort mattress and can’t imagine buying anything else. We have a 3rd Select at our home in Florida. That one is the newest and, as said above, has more features than the others. At the end of the day (literally), it’s all about comfort and we’ve been very happy with the results.

Buddy of mine works for Casper.
He put me into a test program to evaluate their delivery service. I got to keep their top of the line mattress for my efforts. And it’s a super duper mattress.

We have a Simmons Beautyrest Black Hybrid. Think it is the firm model.
I had to go with Simmons as they were replacing a mattress under warranty, for the third time. This one isn’t bad. But I am skeptical it will last based on their history. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

When buying ours, I happened to find a price list attached to the back of the mattress for the future sales which were scheduled over the next 12 months.
When the salesman came over - I held out the sheet and said I’ve unfortunately discovered your prices. Ended up getting a good discount vs. ticket price on the day. Suppose they keep the sheets in the office now.

A guy near me has been making mattresses for over three decades. Last time, I went in, told him what I wanted, he made it and delivered it for $700. King, extra firm springs.

I a feel your pain Eliot ... my wife and I STILL haven’t found the right mattress.
Either too, firm, too soft, too hot ... the list goes on. |

Guess i'm in the minority but all I need is an hour or so. The change from mattress to mattress is NOT that drastic; at least in terms of feeling. I have had success with Sealy and don't foresee this changing with future purchases. Reasonably priced, sleeps well, and no issues with quality.

Wife and I purchased a Casper King a little under 6 months ago. Incredible mattress. Just purchased a Purple Queen for guest, very nice as well.
In short hope to have 10 years before going through this painfull, mind numbing event again.. satisfied with both but must say, way too many choices and reviews. Had a Queen size Sealy and Double pillow top from Sam's Club before our recent purchases. Great mattress, lasted 12 years. Main reason for upgrade was Wife and I wanted a King and a new mattress for our guest. Glad you made a decision OP . What did you decide on ? It seems like with all the choices on the market today you can no longer make a bad decision. |

Went through this process myself not too long ago, also ended up with a Sterns and Foster, went with the lux estate hybrid. After countless hours of reviews and trial, I'll say that you can't really go with a recommendation other than trying it yourself. I tried some of the CR #1 picks and they were so uncomfortable for me. Heard great things about some of the bed-in-box ones and they also didn't work out for me.

My last mattress purchase was a Casper (online). They had me on the 100 day trial (full refund if I don't like it) and after a few days I decided that it was good enough. The wife thinks it's too firm, but I like it. I also like that it was well-priced.

Been there and done it at the beginning of the year. We worked with a great guy who let us try all the expensive whizzy ones and then finally made me try an old-fashioned looking one at the end. Well guess what...……..? He then explained about body weight to hardness ratio and we settled on the old-fashioned soft mattress, not anything I would have considered, but boy, what great sleeps (3 year old allowing)

We've gone through so many I can keep track. Tried the memory foams (Tempur) tried the traditional box spring set ups etc etc. Our latest idea is to try the set up from Marriott Hotels, as we always seem to sleep good when we stay at their hotels. Not sure if that's just because we are on vacation tho Sent from my SM-G960W using Tapatalk |

specifically... It could be that your sleeping well because your on vacation too... I've found people having a hard time deciding find a model by Stearns and Foster quite comfortable and adequate if Tempur-pedic doesn't float the boat... There's a brand I sold years ago that felt amazing when you laid down on it... It's not available everywhere but if you can find a retailer that carries Kingsdown that's it. Most of their models are more on the plush side , a bit more of the higher end hotel bed feel... |
