Are you emotionally attached to any of your watches.
So I had a opportunity present itself by my normal dealer to get top dollar for my day date 40. He called me because he knew I had it and I barely wore it. I almost did it but as I was getting it out of my safe and gathering box and cards I got emotional about it. Now I wasn't on my knees crying but I did get sad. I thought about how for many years this was my dream watch. It took years of hard work to get the money for my watch. I am a family man with 3 kids so everyone else comes first and I come last by my choice. I want my family to be provided for and give them all the things they want and need. So I didn't realize how emotionally attached I was to my watch. That watch represents so much more to me than jus a timepiece. I fell I could get offered double and I probably wouldn't part from it. Only way I could do so was if my family was in need. Anyone else have a watch like that in their collection ? That watch is a big piece of pride for me. I guess that is why when I wear it I carry myself different on the inside.

Nope. It's a watch. My wife, my kid and my dogs aren't for sale. Everything else will go out the door for the right price.

I’ll put it this way: grateful, yes. Emotionally attached, no.

I gave the TT DJ that I was wearing when we were married to my wife, she wears it every day. That is the watch that I am emotionally attached to.

The watch just represents so much pride of how hard I worked to get it. It would go in heart beat as I stated in my original post. I just would not sale it even if it meant getting way over it’s worth

I have a nice, small, collection of Swiss watches. I’m not really “connected” to any of them with the exception of a very old, gold Rolex that my father gave me. He brought it home with him from Europe after serving during WW2.
I don’t think it’s particularly valuable but to me it’s beyond priceless. |

I’m tied to my Kermit. I brought it years ago when I really couldn’t afford it.

They hold significance and I plan to pass certain ones on to my girls when they are ready...
BLNR - was purchased for when I commissioned as an LT in the Army, worn during the birth of my first daughter. SubC - worn during the birth of my second daughter Tudor Sub - gift from the wife for our anniversary. Many others have stories as well... But if it ever came down to it food on the table before sentiment. |

Don’t worry OP, I get it.
I’m emotionally attached to these 2 watches and could never part with them no matter what the offer. My one and only child’s birth year watch. And the watch that I wore when he was born. (And in this pic when we started him on solids ) Sent from my iPhone |

I think we can all assume that our family and loved ones come before our possessions.
That being said I get where the OP is coming from. I get a lot of enjoyment out of my watches and it’s natural to form an emotional attachment to them. Especially when they may represent important milestones etc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I am attached to another much more sentimental piece of jewellery I never take off my finger.
Watches, it’s just for fun. Recently gave my first watch away as wasn’t wearing it enough. Hold on tightly. Let go lightly. And OP - don’t stress about the thread, everyone has their own views on things. It’s what makes the forum fun and interesting. It sounds like you have your priorities set right, so unless you really need to sell, no reason why you wouldn’t feel reluctance to.

I showed my dad my latest acquisition (1940s Omega 30T2) and he loved it and enjoyed my passion for watches and watchmaking.
He passed a few days later, it is my last great memory I will ever have of my dad, so yeah I'm pretty emotionally attached to that watch. |

Not emotionally attached to the watch. Really only attached to a few possessions.

You aren’t attached to your watch. You are attached to how hard you worked for it. How much of a goal it was and that you achieved it. That’s why you don’t want to sell it, and that makes sense. It could be a car, a pen, a custom made desk, expensive piece of art, it just happens to be a watch. Good call on keeping it. Wear it more and remember more often how hard you worked for it. My 3 year old loves mine. She listens to them and a couple of times I’ve had to dive after her as she’s about to throw them!!

Only one that someone gives me as a gift. Otherwise no. So if someone ever did gift me a watch I would never sell it.

no, no sentimental emotion in possessions like a watch or car, that is not a present, there is the emotion of excitement leading up to the purchase, the emotion of boredom when the novelty wears off, the emotion of hope when wanting to sell, and the emotion of happiness if a good price or profit is achieved.

Some of us do have an emotional attachment to our watches. It looks like the OP's watch represents years of hard work and achievement and that's certainly not a bad thing. I've got a Citizen Eco Drive that's not worth $50 on the used market but since my late father wore it for the last 20 years of his life it's one of my most prized possessions and the only watch I know I'll never sell.
