Which recent Sea Dweller / Deep sea is collectable ?
I was in an AD last weekend looking for something else and a salesman was saying there was a recent Sea Dweller or Deep sea that was manufactured for only a couple of years then discontinued and might become sought after. IIRC he said the case size was 43MM.
The same dealer is offering 20% off next week on anything in the store and has a new Deep sea for what would be 10K plus tax. But I do love a "deal" on a used watch ;) |

Many threads on here about likely future values of 116600 which was shortest rn production Rolex sports model. It came in at 40mm.
It’s replacement 126600 came in at 43 mom and had red text on homage to previous references. In the event the red text is removed at Basel 2019 this one too could be a future classic, it’s damn hard to source from AD as it is |

The SeaDweller he's referring to that was only made for a few years is the 116600, aka the SeaDweller 4000, SD4K, etc. Its 40 mm and actually wears smaller than a sub (sits taller, but has narrower lugs). It lacks a cyclops and has a sort of matte finish to the dial. Can be had for ~$11k and is the shortest production run 6-digit Rolex.

The DSSD (116660) was updated (126660) with a new movement (3135 to 3235) and more wider bracelet. |

My favourite watch in my collection. The Sea Dweller 4000, produced from 2014 to 2017. Shortest production of a Rolex watch I believe.
Mighty watch, perfectly sized to 40mm (5 digit case size)... And beautifully shaved lugs (almost like a 5 digit case), rather than the fat chunky lugs of the modern sub. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I got the SD43 first since my AD had it, I was hoping he's still stocking the SD4K since it wasn't a big hit. I wore the SD43 for week or so, then a friend sourced the SD4K... Easiest decision I ever made... Sold my 43 and got the 4K. Size was considerably better (for my wrist at least) and more subtle, and the fact that it lacks a cyclops made beautifully symmetrical. Also, the Mark 1 dial of the SD43 - without the tiny coronet at 6:00 - was phased into the Mark 2 dial earlier year. It's a tiny difference of virtually no aesthetic impact, but for some people, it does distinguish the "true" 50th anniversary edition of the watch, since the Mark 1 dial roughly correlates to the first year of the model's production. |

A MK1 Sea Dweller 43mm will almost certainly be the most collectible of the watches you mention due to it being a true anniversary model. It also appears to have a bigger demand/following than the previous Sea Dweller which typically sat in display cases and was seen by most non-WIS as an expensive Submariner. The Deep Sea is such a niche watch. Really hard to say how sought after it will be down the road.

Love my SD43 Mk1, which I also think will be collectible. I also love my wife’s 16600 but so many of those made not as collectible, although an M serial (last of the five digit SDs) might have some additional value. Either way, we wear our watches in our family.
Good luck with your quest. Best advice I can give is to get the one that you like most! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thanks for all the responses.
You people are a wealth of knowledge ! Off to hunt down a MK1 43 (As a big guy I like the size over the 40mm) |
