Quick 16700 Bezel Question

Hi all,

I was recently at my local go-to preowned watch dealer to look at a Pepsi 16700. The watch is in decent shape but one thing that kind of threw me off was the bezel. I assumed the bezel would be a bidirectional bezel instead of a unidirectional bezel like a sub. Does anyone know if this is incorrect/shady?

Thanks,
Mike

Incorrect. Should be bidirectional because it's a gmt.

It could just be a broken click spring under the bezel...or someone installed a Sub click spring. Not a big deal if the watch is legit. It's a $20 part and a 15 second fix.

As already said it should be bi-directional.

Thanks for the input, all.

The rest of the watch looks fine and the seller is reputable, I just thought the bezel was off.

This is good to hear. I assumed the bezel itself (not the insert) would have to be replaced. I'll see if they can fix it or I'll see if they can knock some $ off.

Yep, I've seen GMT springs in subs and vice versa. When I received my pre-owned "Z" Sea Dweller. it had the wrong spring in it. Simple fix!

The spring is really just a small piece of wire. I'm not 100% certain since I sold my 16700 quite a while ago however mine may have been set up with a unidirectional spring. I wouldn't really worry about. You can get a new spring cheap enough and they're easy to replace.

The click spring is the problem.

Either a wrong "Sub" one or a broken "GMT" one: when the wear out and break they can behave unidirectional.

Easy and inexpensive fix.

Here's a good diagram of the bezel spring. Notice the difference between the uni-directional Sub and the multi-directional GMT.

There is a newer version of the GMT spring that is similar, but longer than the one pictured in the above post. With it, the bezel rotates clockwise more smoothly and is less prone to damage. If you do get a replacement spring, I would seek out the new version. It's also available online in a generic part for under $5.

This is SUPER helpful! I love me some visuals :)

I thought the "teeth" in the bezel would be different but this makes much more sense. This is why I'm not an engineer.

Thank you!

Yes, after seeing the visual from ras47, I could see how the GMT spring could break and start to act like a sub.

Thanks for the info!

Good to know. Thank you!

I'll see if the dealer would be willing to fix that given the inexpensive nature of the fix.

Will do!

Side note, the dealer wrote back and said he could change out the spring, no problem.
