Diamond district NYC?

Hi,

I will possibly go to NYC in the next weeks. I would appreciate any input about the diamond district.

Thanks in advance!

Very impressive, but no bargains to be had.

Be very careful there. It’s an easy place to get taken advantage of.

What do you mean? Could you, please, elaborate on this?

Also the non-current references, for instance 5 digits?

As mentioned before, look but don't touch. I know a good vintage guy down there but for the most part the dealers down there are animals and are looking to take advantage of everyone. Without developing a relationship with someone down there I doubt there is a deal to be made. I've tried to negotiate in the past but they wouldn't budge because they knew someone else would come along they could prey on.

Spend time elsewhere unless you want to window shop.

Those guys are sharks, but it’s a really fun place to be. Just getting to see that many pieces in one place is awesome. I tried to make a deal once and every watch the guy had was special in some way. Even a stainless dj with an aftermarket diamond dial was special. I wasn’t buying because it wasn’t original though. I was looking for a stainless DJ for a reasonable price and he must have had 25000 watches in that store and he sure didn’t care if he sold one. I’ve never seen so many watches in one store and a store owner that was okay not moving any inventory. He just had them in boxes stacked on each other and not really cared for. Most were obviously just loose and not full sets either. Seemed kind of tragic to me. Millions in watches just laying around and the Rolex were treated like a fossil.

This. Exactly this.

They literally prey on the uninformed.

But they do have literally everything.

They are catering to rich visitors to NYC. Prices are worse than TRF classified, and your chance of getting scammed is also around the same.
