Both pretty equal in terms to holding their value. Both current production lines, not hard to get. Just buy what sings to you.

For me, the 90.
I have neither, but if I had to choose, would go 90

90 vs 88.Both very nice and a tough choice. You can also throw in the 104 and 164.

90 ~ I like the power reserve dial, but no the small minute markers
88 ~ Dont like the skeleton hands and the silver second dial

Thats the negatives, but overall both very nice and you cant go wrong with either.

As my first choice I had a look at all of these and liked the 104 the best. Its my first PAM and the one I wear most.

I own neither at the moment but have owned the 88 4 times, LOL. I'm more of a gmt than PR guy so I like the 88. That said my go to Panerai is the 233. Has the PR and gmt. :-)

I know kinda off topic, but how about both of these compared to a 48? I know it's only a 40 mm, but again in regards to value and rarity where does it stand?

I like both, but I will pick the 90 first I think is more elegant like TR says.

The only watch I ever flipped was the 90 due getting a 270. I still have my 88 and wear it occasionally. Some feel the dial is cluttered but i think it works well.

I was deciding between PAM90 and 88 a while back, but decided to buy neither. I got some good advice from another Panerai forum:
PAM 90 - looks great, very clean and stylish, but what's the point of a power reserve that's only 40 hours?
PAM 88 - looks too busy with the minute marker
Both of these have higher production volume (relatively speaking within Panerai) and the beauty of owning a PAM is the limited volume.

Eventually I went with PAM 161 (Ti/SS Bracelet) - but it was $2K more than PAM88

If you are looking for a GMT, I would suggest looking at pre-owned PAM 161 or current PAM 297. You have to look hard, but good value can be had at the OTHER Panerai forum's collector's market. Pre-owned should give you the best value since the initial "hit" has been taken by the first owner. Just make sure you are (as many TRFers have said) "buying the seller"

While we are at it - how about Rolex GMTII-C? I think it's a good value for a good watch.

Good call on the 161, with the buyers market I know of one on TZ at a steal of a price from a good seller.

It is for me hard to say, but I do like titanium. I would suggest that you give a titanium model a try on if you get the chance, I just think they wear so well on the wrist.
