Submariner 14060M NOS vs near NOS
Hi all,
Im a newbie to this forum and am from Australia. Currently trying to decide between two watches, same model but different condition and price. This is my first purchase of sort of vintage Rolex. Sub 14060M (year 2008) NOS condition with original initial paper full set AUD 15291 vs Sub 14060M (year 2012) near NOS condition no original initial paper but come with Rolex service paper AUD 11600. Which one would you choose? would love to hear some opinion from you guys!! Thank you in advance!! |

The minute you wear that high priced "NOS" watch, it's a used 10 year old watch.
4000 less and 4 years newer. Barring something completely off it seems like a no-brainer to me.

2012 version without question. It's less expensive and should have a Parachrom hairspring.

yes, I was just wondering if it is justifiable to pay more just to get a complete set with original rolex paper.

I agree. If you're buying a watch to wear and enjoy, then the near-NOS is the choice. The recent service is a big plus, too.

Forget future value (difficult for many on this forum) and buy the watch that makes the most sense. I agree with the others......the newer watch is a no-brainer

First of let me congratulate you on your discerning taste - a 14060m is an excellent choice.
But I must ask: Did you look at trusted sellers here? 14060m's are readily available from most with papers. I bought mine from DavidSW. Beautiful 2007 2-line with full set. A photo is always nice :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

I would go with the less expensive model. Same watch and why pay for close to NOS when you will wear the watch.

Pre owned would be my choice like many already have stated.

Kind of agree with the others, leave the NOS stuff for the collectors who want to look at the stuff.
We’re a long time dead, this ain’t no dress rehearsal and you’re not going to be taking pleasure on your death bed from knowing you never wore your watch. Other cliches are available. Seriously though, even having NOS cheaper vintage watches I’ve sold them because it’s pointless after a while when you stand there and think can’t wear that today encase blah blah Also watches (having owned hundreds) all have a different feel some how. I have had used looking pieces and ‘upgraded’ to minters and subsequently sold the minter because they didn’t feel as good. And we’re talking peasant spec stuff compared to your dilemma so can’t imagine what an old NOS Rolex must be like. |

Those prices are quite high but if you are going to wear the watch the near NOS model would be my choice.

Neither, those prices are crazy! Buy a new 114060 and a speedy.

If your intention is to buy to wear then NOS really isn't worth it.

First of all, welcome to the forum!
A little clarification that might help you. If we change your language to “mint” or “near mint,” I think you will see that you’re overpaying for these watches. The reason for this is that NOS literally means the watch has never been worn and is in the exact state that it left the factory in. It’s very uncommon to find NOS watches. What is much more common, especially in the last several years, is for people to overuse the term as sales hyperbole. It’s possible that the first watch is NOS, but I doubt it. To call a serviced watch “near NOS“ makes no sense whatsoever. I suggest you make the decision based on how much more an unserviced, and likely unpolished, watch is worth to you versus a serviced and likely polished watch. Get NOS out of your mind because as others have noted, once you wear the watch it’s a moot point. Now, the only question that remains for you is how badly do you want a package with original papers versus service. To answer your question, yes, generally, original papers are valued a bit higher than service papers, assuming all other things are equal. |

So this is the one I am looking at. Sorry I can't post a link cause I'm still new. But the seller is "S&A watches" based in Austria on Chrono24, you can check it out on the chrono24 website. Hi all, really greatful for all your reply in such short period of time. Thought I explain a bit more about the intention of me looking for a watch. It is mainly to mark a special occasion in my life, so I have no intention of selling this watch. And I am looking for a watch in as good condition as possible cause I want to be the one that put all the battle scar on the watch from daily wearing. Feel free to say I am weird for having this kind of thought :P. |

Not all sellers are equal. So it’s important to do your research. As many on the forum will tell you, buy the seller (not the watch). Not sure how much Chrono24 stands behind the sellers if something goes awry in an online purchase.
The trusted sellers here on the forum usually have inventory of 5 digit subs and also ship to Australia. Check the “who’s who” section to see which sellers regularly get good feedback from buyers here on the forum. Box & papers certainly add a premium to the price. Only relevant if you intend to sell later. I also would query “NOS”. Are the stickers still intact on the watch? Good luck!

I wouldn't trust a seller that used a hokey term like "near NOS"

Buy overpriced NOS if you intend to keep it in your safe. Buy not NOS to wear.
