What do you guys think of replacement dials/hands

Been thinking about picking up a 1680 love the acrylic and was wondering the thoughts on watches with replacement dials and hands kinda new to the vintage game — does it de value a watch quite a bit ?

If replacement hands from the same era match the dial, then I don't see how anyone would even know.

If you mean service replacements, such as luminova dial/hands to replace original trititum, then yes, that greatly negatively affects value. If they are period-correct replacements, then not as much, if at all, since it would be hard to tell they were replaced.

Price should reflect service replacements.

You do not know why they were replaced, but it may well be that the watch is more marketable with those service parts.

As long as the price matches the parts then there's nothing wrong with it.

I personally prefer original, but as long as the wearer is happy.

Plexi is sexy. The main reason I wanted a vintage sub.

Service replacement dials still look great and carry the vintage vibe ... but are less sought after / less expensive. Do your research !

Anything with newer luminova hands and dial would be a bad buy.....worth much less and a lot harder to sell if you ever need too. I would stay away

i'll have to see if i can find one original for a reasonable price they seem to be pretty crazy should have bought one years ago

I thought my budget was 10k and under but it doesn't look like thats possible for a nice specimen. might have to save some more pennies

Yea 13-15 for a not overpolished, matching tritium with proper insert 1680 is probably going rate

I understand your overall sentiment but I wouldn't go as far as to say a bad buy...depending on price and intent. I would love to read my 1680 at night. Appropriately priced with luminova replacements get snapped relatively quickly.

I have seen a 1680 with a luminova red dial sell on Chrono24 for 16k. There is also one on ebay currently for 19k. Some people are quite happy to pay for a luminova dial just as long is it is genuine. The red dials do seem to command a premium given their scarcity.
