First trip with Rolex? Cruise Safety etc..

Guys, I need your opinion on something.
I'm going on my first cruise and it will be to Mexico. My wife's idea.....I have never been to Mexico.

I checked with my insurance and my Rolex is only covered in the US, Canada
and Puerto Rico. I just got my first Rolex less than two months ago. I've been told by some coworkers who have been to Mexico to not take the Rolex there. I also will be flying to Long Beach so first time Rolex will go with me on a plane as well.
So I have 3 options.

1. Leave the Rolex in bank safe deposit box and wear my Steinhart Pepsi or Timex Ironman.

2. Wear the Rolex on the cruise and leave it in the safe in the room and put on another watch when we go to the 3 port cities.

3. Wear the Rolex all the time.

Any suggestions? I'm leaving in less than 12 hours so need to decide quickly.
Thank you.

I would wear and enjoy your Rolex. I’ve worn Rolex and Patek Philippe on cruises without any issues. Most cruise ports are safe areas, so as long as you stay in the vicinity of other tourists and don’t venture out late (which you generally can’t on a cruise anyway), you should be fine.

This but in general it is my policy not to take any valuables that I cannot afford to lose to s***hole countries. Now, you could ask, how do I know Mexico is one? Well, I wasnt born in Mexico but I was born and raised in one of the biggest s***holes on this earth. I know one when I see it...

As necessary as any factually correct truth. Objective reality and all that...

I wasnt born in Florida. Although there are some areas around here where it is definitely not safe to flash a Rolex, Florida is a pretty safe place. Not to mention that when I leave home in the morning I always make sure to have my watch and my carry piece.

It’s bizarre that your insurance company is selective. If I have the misfortune of being parted with my watch/es, they are covered, end of.

Leave it. Choose something else for the trip.

I have cruised all over the world and always take my Rolex, in fact, many times more than one.
Insure it, wear it.
Some cities, leave in safe in cabin.
Always act smart when in any city, not like a target tourist.

In fact, my Batman just traveled on a cruise all over Argentina, Uruguay, saw Cape Horn and even made it to Chile. I either left it on the ship or had it on my person, in a Rolex pouch, in a belt under my pants or on my wrist, depending on location. If on ship organized tours, no worries at all.

This is very good advice. I have traveled all over the world wearing Rolexes, including bad areas and combat zones, and have never had a problem.

But you have to be situationally aware. If you are not confident, I would leave it at home.

I personally wouldn’t take any valuables down to Mexico, but that's just me. Why risk it.

I took my BLNR on a cruise to Mexico last year but left it in the safe when we departed the ship. I brought a beater for excursions and wore my Rolex the rest of the time without any issues.

I live in Mexico City, but if I were you I would leave it in the safe till you come back. Even if it is insured, you never know... I don't wear my watch exposed at all in MX City, always under my sleeve.

Best advice coming from someone who lives there. Tourists are big targets. Not worth the risk. You may lose the watch along with an arm, or two.

Took mine on QM2

I took mine on QM2 transatlantic. HOWEVER....I made sure my insurance covered it outside of US. (Hamburg and UK). I also checked with Cunard. The room safe was a joke. Anyone watching YouTube could get into it. And the cruise line did not have a universal safe (like hotels do). So I insured $200k worth of jewelry and took it all with me. I would not take it to Mexico. Unless staying in best hotels with a body guard.

I just booked our 20th cruise and honestly have always just worn what I wanted and I don’t worry about it. Generally we stay near the Port and tourist areas and there are so many people wearing and buying high end jewelry, someone wearing a Rolex doesn’t really stand out. It’s also usually daytime as the ships usually leave port before or right at dark. If you are going to go on an excursion or off the beaten path, you may want to leave it in your room safe for the day. Wear it and enjoy it, that’s why you bought it. Just my two cents.

Just got back from a cruise to The Caymans, Mexico and Jamaica- wore my watch everyday. Didn’t have a problem at all, but as mentioned previously the safe in cabin is secure for storage if you decide not to wear it for any reason.

Enjoy the cruise!

I wouldn't go ten feet off the ship in Mexico wearing a Rolex. On the ship, no problem. If you are concerned about it I would just leave at home. Why worry about it if you don't have to? Not sure I trust the safes in the cabins...

I WOULD NOT trust cruise ship safes. These are hotel safes that are generally fireproof for less than 1 hour. They are not insured, and anyone watching a YouTube video can get into them. I keep mine (and all jewelry) in an Amsec TL-15. The jewelers standard.
