Is there any reason not to buy?

I have an opportunity to buy a new sub 114060 from from a local AD for retail. Having read a bit on the shortage of steel Rolex sport watches and watching the used market prices skyrocket, are there any reasons not to buy this watch? I’ve heard rumors of movement upgrades or perhaps moving away from the maxi case. Will Rolex dump more inventory into the market in 2019 driving prices back down a bit? I’d appreciate any incite.

My insight would be to encourage you to get it if it sings to you.

Is this a watch that you want? Do you like it? Have you tried it on?

If you like it, then get it. If not, then let it pass.

Precisely ...its a great watch.....why wait for what might come along later if you like it now. Also, who knows whether things will even become more difficult over time?

If you like it you should go for it!

But if you don't like it but feel like you "should" buy it, you should pass.

Do you want it, or just buying because it is available?

This.

I'm on the waiting list at my AD for one. I've had two in the past (still kicking myself, I know...) and I've decided that I want it again. This time I'll keep it.

If they come out with a new case, that's fine. If there's a new movement, that's fine too. Neither diminishes the appeal or value of the current edition, IMHO.

Buy it if you want it and you like it, not because it is hard to get or it’s “rare.”

If you like it buy it. If not pass. If you think you need to buy it as it is an investment, take what you would have spent on the watch and invest properly in the right financial instrument for you.

Have to agree but sadly today many just think of Rolex watches to be little more than £££$$$$. Instead of buying owning and wearing one of the finest mechanical watches made today.Always makes me smile when the word rare is associated with Rolex watches made in there hundreds of thousands each year.

I really wish some posters wouldn't be so negative especially when off topic. I think you should go for it! Good luck.

The first statement is exactly that, rumors. And the second is a question that nobody here knows the answer to. So...take that for what it's worth.

Now, what I can tell you is that if you're in the market for a sub, then MSRP at an AD is a pretty good deal nowadays. It's not enough of a deal, though, to buy one if you're not.

I wouldn’t buy just for the sake of buying it. Especially if you don’t love it.

Upgrade on the movement is a certain. More models are going to get it this year at Basel. Sub is likely to be one of them. It’s a matter of time.
Rolex has no reason to keep the new caliber for Datejusts and couple of GMTs only.

I would wait 3 more months. New movement with 70hrs power reserve is a deal braker for me.

They only reason not to buy it would be if you don’t want to wear it.

The reason to not buy it, would be that you don’t want it.
These are not by any stretch rare or scare watches, and if you pay retail plus applicable taxes, I can’t imagine there is any room to make money if you sell.
Great watch if you want to wear it, otherwise leave it

It's pretty simple.

Do you like watch: Yes. No.

If yes buy watch.

If no don't buy watch.

It seems you want to buy it to make a profit .Go for it .Even if there are changes in 2019,it will always rise in value .Depends if you want to make a quick buck or much more in 10 years time .

I've ordered a 114060 through my AD am waiting patiently for it to come in. Even if an upgraded model is on the way, it will probably be very difficult to get one as is with the Daytona or the Gmt at the moment. It will also be more expensive than the current 114060. Seeing the rising prices of Rolex, MSRP for the 114060 at this point is not crazy. That's why I'm not waiting for the new model. The new sub will be likely more than 7500 euro MSRP and way more on the grey market.

If you are going to buy it just to unload it for a small profit I wouldn't bother. If it is a watch you want to wear than go for it.

This isn’t one to buy for a material profit. It’s one to make you smile when looking down at your wrist
