RO retaining value?
Been waiting for a blue dial 15400 (despite discontinuation rumors my AD can apparently get me one) but I am wondering on its capacity to retain value over the years.
It is a big purchase for me, which comes to mark a particular life event. However If circumstances require me to get rid of it, would it hold its value like a Rolex can for instance? The fact that all RO SS are getting scratches easily makes me have doubts. Please share your POV. Thank you! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It's been one of my better purchases in both enjoyment and % growth. Got it NIB with my name on the papers for around $10.5k almost 6 years ago.
They seem to be holding strong around retail right now and I don't ever think they will drop that low again. If it is truly discontinued and depending on what replaces it then prices could go higher. 39mm 15300s seem to have held pretty strong over the years as well so again doubt prices will fall off a cliff. All that really matters is that you enjoy it. Mine was my wedding watch so the price really doesn't matter as it will always be in my collection. |

Blue dial yes, B/W not so much,
I think prices will come down in the years to come, I think you will lose more then you think when you try to sell |

I agree, the blue will always command a premium... especially if you can get it at MSRP. I was looking to get a black dial RO, but am going to wait for the new version.

I think you can do much worse , I would go ahead and buy it if your only concern is financial. But the concern of scratching the bezel its a real one , I just can’t put up with that so I decided no Nautilus, Aquas or RO’s for me. I have one ROO but they has a ceramic bezel

RO retaining value?

I just picked this ROO up for a daily beater because I’m worried about ruining the beautiful finish of the RO with daily use. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Crystal ball is fuzzy. I’d say a blue royal oak is safer than most but that’s about it.

There are some rumours that the 15400s will be discontinued / replaced. If resales is critical for you, I will wait until after SIHH to access the situation. It's after all only about a week away.

I got my RG 44 panda and just a couple months later they released the new version ... then I got my blue 15400 a few months ago and now this :
As per my own obervation ... value remains more less stable at current levels ... new models trend higher.

I share your exact sentiments so I went with the ROO CE bezel as well. Now, the only watch in my collection without a ceramic bezel is the Nautilus 5712 which I don't wear daily. |

No One can predict the future, and history is no indication of what will happend to the prices in the years to come...having said that, I personally think the simple 3 handler RO in steel with blue dial is as safe of a bet as they come if you are keen on the brand.
Keep it between 37-41mm, and you'd probably always have a buyer for it. It's still no Rolex so you'd likely to lose some money on it and it is harder to sell given its fairly pricey for what it is, but worst come to worse you'd not take a bloodbath on it for sure. I'd put a wager on 15202 remaining pretty much the most sought after RO ever and with AP continuing to limit its supply and pushing prices up, these will be well worth keeping for 10-15 years. I'd stay away from any ROO as in my view their 1990s design language, size and promotions, along with non-manufacture chrono movements will drag their re-sale significantly over time, but who knows...these things are cyclical and I am sure the big watch fad will come back with vengeance in due course. PS: All of these are obviously speculations and as a rule of thumb, if you worry about retaining value, you'd prob want to either save up more or get another piece, but thats just my principle, to be honest, everyone is to their own. |

Could someone please enlighten me with regards to non manufacturer chrono movements on ROO as I was keen on it but never thought AP also out sourced movements.

RO retaining value?

The movement in the ROO is an in-house AP automatic movement with a Dubois Depraz chronograph module on top. Hence, not an integrated in-house chronograph like a Rolex Daytona, etc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

When it comes to resale I think its anyone's guess, we can speculate but anything can happen. I don't think many people predicted the price spikes we've seen in recent years. As far as the scratching concern goes I think it can be over exaggerated at times. I have been wearing a 15300 almost daily for over a year now and it has held up surprisingly well and has not been nearly as delicate as I thought it would be. Again, this also hinges on your wrist presence and awareness. At the end of the day only you can make the decision, purchase what will make you happy, wear it, enjoy it and you will not be disappointed.

5712 was my first patek , beautiful watch but is hard to to care of. So much money tied to a watch that when you wear it you have to be conscious about it “ Wrist Awareness “ is not my idea of fun. But I get it , when you have to have it , then you do . Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

While the going is good, the blue 400 will do well, when things turn it will probably still be a good store of value, many others watches will have a harder time, like ROOs and 450s.
