Just ordered my first Rolex on the secondary market. (opinons/help please)

Hello. I'm looking to get some feedback.

I have just placed an offer with a secondary dealer for a Rolex 116613LB. This will be my first Rolex purchase and I originally wanted to go through a real dealer... but today I was told that it might be up to 2 years to get the same watch.

On the website for the secondary, it's a €200 (230 dollars) premium... but I can have it now. Only downside is I have to travel an extra 100 miles to pick it up. I don't mind the extra cost or travel. It's worth it to get my dream watch. But in the back of my mind is this horrible little voice "What if its a fake?"

The dealer themselves seem decent enough... have 7 physical shops on the high-street and their ebay feedback is fantastic over 7k positive on high value watches. So I don't know why I'm a bit worried... but I am. The watch even has all its stickers in place. So hopefully when I see the watch I will forget all about it.

But to all of you, as I am inexperienced in this watch business... is there anything I should look out for?

Thank you. I appreciate your help. I probably am being overly cautious.

Very nice choice! A TT Bluesy is a beautiful watch! Do you have a link or picture to the specific watch? Members here will let you know if anything suspicious jumps out at them. Did you buy the watch sight unseen and need to go pick it up? Or, will you travel, look at the watch in person and have the option to pass if you don't like it?

As many members recommend here on these types of situations......Always "Buy the seller" along with buying the watch. You have to do your homework and feel good about the seller that you're doing business with.

Doesn’t sound like much of a premium at all. Wear it in good health.

I'm going to visit my family in the UK next week and since my local German dealer said they can't help out. I started looking in the UK and this is about 50 miles from my parents house. In fairness to my local German AD, I originally asked them to get me a Submariner Date (black) which they said they could get me within the next few months. But this forum and seeing pictures of the lovely Blue one... just sealed the deal. I had to have it!

I'm just waiting for them to accept my offer. As I will be paying in person. (and therefore, I can just walk away if it looks bogus or too good to be true).

But looking at their feedback. I shouldn't be worried really... I just am!

Everything looks and sounds legit to me. Maybe take a loupe. Take a good look at the serial no. on the rehaut and look for the coronet on the crystal. It's good to be cautious but l don't think you should feel paranoid. It's fully stickered and linked, it looks good to go after your final inspection Enjoy your new Bluesy..

Go pick it up. Double check all the serial numbers match if there are tags. Look at everything carefully and take your time. It’s a big purchase. Make a day out of it!

They're a good seller, it's unlikely that they'd risk their reputation built over many years, to make a few grand ripping you off.

Thanks guys. Yeah I am really looking forward to picking it up. Makes me want to get my flights changed to an earlier date lol.
But I will take my time and inspect it. I'm currently on youtube looking at fakes... so I can spot the differences.

Good decisions! Post some photos. I’m sure the store owner would love to be featured on Rolex Forums.

Sounds good. It also sounds like you're doing your proper research and due diligence, so I think you'll be just fine. I saw the watch you're looking at and the feedback they have. They seem very legit and I don't think you have anything to worry about, especially since you're doing this transaction in person.

The bluesy is a real stunning watch! I have a relative that owns one and it is VERY beautiful! I can understand why you are choosing it over the black Sub date. I hope to be able to buy my grail watch someday which is the full YG version of this watch, the 116618LB. I have quite a bit more saving to do though and it won't be for quite awhile!

Looking forward to your incoming when you pick it up. Please post pics when you do. We'd love to see that beauty!

Thank you :) I will post pictures when I get it (hopefully!).
But yeah the full gold version, I saw someone linked it on here before and it is lovely... I never thought I'd like it but wow it looks great.

Perhaps one day I too shall replace this steel and gold one with the full gold one! Who knows, good luck with your savings. I hope you get one!

What type of warranty. Rolex 5 year factory?

I personally would wait it out with an AD, but that’s just me.

I feel your pain! My first experience with a grey dealer was terrifying! Actually turned around and had the watch sent to Rolex for service just to put my mind at ease!

Great, congratulations. The only things to looks for is to make sure that the watch is as described, undamaged, and you receive the full set, correct hang tags, boxes and documents, unless of course you have agreed previously on something else.

It can be hair raising. My first grey experiences were on the forum with well know (trusted) sellers. They all worked out well enough. It used to be cheaper to buy through trusted sellers but no longer. At any rate I hope it all works out.

If it's a bricks and mortar store technically you should be ok...
Make sure you inspect the watch, boxes and papers, hang tags and all
coming with the full set carefully ... Study the links on here associated
with this reference so you know what you are looking for,,,
Most of all ask about the 5 year warranty that you should be getting if
it's brand new in box set... Congrats on a stunning and beautiful Blue
Rolex submariner.... One of my favorites and my favorite watch as well that
I own...

Congratulations! I'm sure you'll love it.

It's a crazy market we're in that a Rolessor Submariner isn't readily available from an AD.

Good luck with the purchase! But mind you, no way there is anywhere a 2 years waiting period for this one. With a bit of luck, you'll find out one at an AD even in those strong markets, or take a trip further east, and if you don't find one, you won't wait more than a month for it. You just have to search a bit.

Not to derail the conversation by getting into shortage talk but...up to 2 year estimated wait for a TT Sub?!? Has supply become that bad overseas?

I had that problem with mine. Some grey dealer like to short a link especially if is SS&18KT.

Thanks guys for the advice. I will make sure there are the correct number of links.
I have large wrists 7.75 and they expand up to nearly 8" when its hot so I will certainly notice if there are any missing. I think that's why I want the Submariner that adjustable clasp will make my life/wrist easier to manage.

Regarding the watch, I can confirm the watch is now mine! I will be flying to my parents on Sunday and on Monday I shall be picking up the watch (should it be as good as I expect it to be). I placed a small deposit (£200) on it and it's been taken off their website and is shown as "Sold" on ebay. So great news! Expect a post on Monday with my new watch. I think the done thing here is to make a new thread right? I've read quite a few "I got a new watch" today threads.

Thanks again for all your help and advice everyone!

Congrats! I think you will really enjoy the bluesy...it's one of my favorites in the line up, and the best TT, hands down. IMO.

Yes, by all means, make an "INCOMING" thread. We love pics here!
