Internet Sales
I think this is an appropriate question for this section. I contacted a well advertised internet grey dealer about a GMT II via numerous emails and phone conversation. I asked in both my emails and in the conversation for them to send me actual pictures of the watch in question since the web site pictures were stock photos. All I received was a pushy sales tactic about the purchase could be made via credit card and that would protect me. The guy said I had a three day inspection period to verify the watch. What is more strange is this person stated he had both a M and Z serial but kept trying to sell me a M series he "just got in" that had no papers. I hate to say but this company has been mentioned on this forum and the mention that is made to me sounds like someone from the company praising themselves. I would rather not name names but if anyone would like to discuss this with me via PM I would be glad to elaborate. Is this typical of grey market dealers?

Pushy sales tactics.
Three day inspection period to verify the watch. Once they have your money - ADIOS Rather not name names. Typical of grey dealers - sounds more like typical of scammers! |

Being advertised on the internet doesn't mean having a good reputation. I can think of at least 3 or 4 shady companies that I know of that at first glance would seem like proper businesses but are total shams.

I guess where I was going with this is they have been mentioned on TRF in a favorable light. I didn't get a good feeling from my dealings and wanted to voice my findings. I would rather not mention any names as they may be perfectly legit.

I would be careful, but you do have significant protection with a credit card. My cc company has ALWAYS backed me with any problems.
Not getting papers is a deal killer for me. I bought from Jomashop twice (a well known grey dealer in NYC) and never had a problem. They were actually great. Sometimes grey dealers don't want to give out the certificate because they don't want you to know where the watch originated (often abroad). Good luck! |
