Datejust 38mm or 40mm

I like the new DJ, but I find the 36mm too small for my taste and the 41.5mm too big for my taste. If Rolex was to come out with a 38-40mm DJ with the same design...that would be nice. Does anyone else agree? Yes, I know about the DJ2, but I like the DJ36 and DJ41 iteration.

dress watches are meant to be that size, 36mm is fine, in my opinion.

My wrist size is the same as you and i think the 41mm suits me nicely

Was convinced I was going to pick up a DJ41 for my birthday, but it just didn’t feel right on. Also, while I think the proportions are excellent, it’s just ever so slightly too large for the type of watch it is.

Tried the new bimetal 36 and thought it wore fantastically. Extremely comfortable and I think it looked fine on my 7.5 inch wrist. It just looks tiny when taken off and that puts doubt in my head.

Only if the dropped the DJ41 down a 1mm to 38.5mm ish. Which funnily enough is the size I wear in Nomos.

Personal I think a 39m DJ would be perfect. My wife wears my 36m and I really believe it’s too small. The 41m doesn’t feel right,it’s also 1m bigger than the DD and historically the two models have always been the same size. I have a 39m Explorer and it’s a great fit.

p.s. the daydate is still made at 36mm, thats 60 years of getting it right, i would not have wanted a daydate if the only size was the 40mm version.

p.p.s. i dont like seeing a lady wearing a mans watch, 36mm on a lady is massive, only my opinion of course.

It really is, but I have to have a date on my watches. Honestly, I think I the check the date much more frequently than the time. Also, think the 41 is slightly too brash. I went from wanting rhodium, fluted and oyster to 36 rhodium rose gold, fluted jubilee and thought it looked more subtle. Which is bizarre.

Thanks for the information. My wrist seems like to like 38mm. Hence, why I'm reluctant to buy the DJ36 or DJ41. I'm taking every post into consideration.

The DJ41 is actually 39.5mm. Why they call it a 41 is beyond me. So you all have your perfect watch. The DJll is a true 41mm. This is a pic of my old DJ41 next to my DJ36. It’s really close in size

Have you even tried on the DJ41? It’s 39.5mm and it wears smaller imo. I have posted a pic of it next to my DJ36. I have a pic of my DJll next to my DJ36 I can post if you want. It makes my 36 look like a 31mm.

The first watch is my DJll and you can see the DJ36 how small it looks. The DJll wears much larger. If you get the DJ41 in jubilee it will wear smaller. If you get oyster it will wear larger. Good luck.

Doesn't it usually depend on the size of your wrist? If a person has a small wrist, a 40mm might look a bit weird. No?

I haven't had the chance to try it on. All the Rolex places here have nothing but felt in the glass with a few gold watches and one had a WG Pepsi. I'm in South Korea. Rolexes are scarce here too. Even DJs.

I actually sold my DJ41 on jubilee because it wore too small. I bought a NOS DJll. For me the larger watch fits my wrist better.

This picture really shows the size difference as the DJll is a true 41mm watch and the DJ41 is a 39.5mm watch. The people at Rolex told me it was a 41mm watch and I believed them. It’s obviously not and it was a expensive mistake. The members on TRF actually informed me of the sizing and you can really see how much that 1.5mm really makes.

I have been saying this for a long time.
A 38-39mm DJ is the perfect watch imo.


Rolex kind of went off the rail with the case size and thickness in the last decade. I started to appreciate 5 digit references more and more.
DJ2 was a flop.....Rolex does't often discontinue/upgrade a model so fast.
DJ41 is better but what we need is a 38-39mm DJ.

I hope they would listen. Also, give us an option to have non-polished centre links oyster on sport models.

I agree. I would love to see a 38mm DJ. I have a 7 1/4” wrist. I think 41 is too big for this style watch. I prefer the 36 but 38 would be perfect.
