Rookie Submariner question

Hi all

Don’t shoot me if this is a stupid question please!
But why do I see the Submariner Date 40 mm, Oystersteel and yellow gold go down in value on most sites offering Rolex and a normal Submariner keeping its price or even being sold above retail price?

Thanks for your answers :)

Currently, the market for steel Rolex's is super hot. Demand is simply exceeding supply hence the market price for these have shifted higher.

The value of the materials in a Two Tone, or Solid Precious Metal watch will always be more than a Stainless Steel model.

However, market value has nothing to do with the material a product is made of. The high demand for stainless steel models, and people willing to pay the high prices, will keep these model market values higher.

If you take them in for scrap value, gold will get you more, but it won't be very much..
