What would you do?
Hi all
Curious to the answers of my following question: What would you do if you have been saving/waiting for months or years for your ultimate grail and when the time finally arrives, you think the watch doesn’t suit you/you are disappointed on how it looks on you... Would you still buy it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Absolutely not. That’s exactly why you try on a watch before buying it.

Depends on the watch. If it was a model that I could sell without taking a bath on it, more specifically one I could easily get my money back on, then I’d probably take a punt on it.
In all other circumstances I would be very circumspect about spending a lot of money on something I wasn’t convinced about despite thinking about it for years. |

Definitely not. Only buy something you love especially if it's a costly purchase like a watch..

100% not
If it doesn’t suit you, or you don’t like it as much as hoped, then it stops being a grail and the hunt continues. This is arguably the most lamentable thing about various brands’ shortages in supply cases.

Why would you buy it? You thought it was your grail, you saw it in the flesh and realized that it wasn’t, pretty silly to buy it at that point.
I’ve purchased some high end items that I thought were exactly what I wanted, opened the box and knew immediately that it wasn’t for me. It’s a disappointment but you’re better off walking away if you’re not 100%.

One never knows about a watch until you try it on your wrist. Can't tell you how many watches I loved on the internet that didn't do anything for me when I tried them on. BLNR is an example. Be glad you didn't have to purchase it to find out it wasn't for you. Good luck with the continued search.

Walk away. I went to look at a Tudor North Flag at an AD last year, cash in hand, expecting to buy, I tried it on, walked around the shop for a bit, looked at it long and hard, decided it just wasn't for me, and came straight home. The cash lives on, and will be spent on something horological, I do fancy a long case regulator clock.......maybe.

Grail to me is a watch you've had on and vetted already, I mean to start putting money away for a watch you have't worn yet seems impetuous.

I’d pass. If you don’t love it in the store you won’t like it out at home.

Walk away and find a new grail! There are far too many great watches from many brands to buy something unsatisfying to you.

Consider yourself lucky to know and happily walk away.
What is worse is what happened to me. Bought my grail watch and within a week I realized it was the wrong watch for me. Now I have a SS Daytona I don't wear. |

What would you do?
If it was a SS Professional model, one that is fetching above MSRP pre-owned, then I’d give it a go and wear it for a month.
There is zero risk. Remember, you once wanted it - then you were unsure - and maybe the only way to know for sure is to wear it for a month. After a month you could easily sell it for what you paid. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I don't buy anything that does not exceed my expectations. Got 0.00001% doubt? No purchase.

Do you no longer like the watch or thinking of other ways of spending ‘grail’ type money? Personally, I have no issue with spending 10-15k on a piece; however, not sure if I could let go of 50k, even if it was saved for a special piece.
