School Me on Modern Popular APs
Sorry for the sophomoric question, but I am new to the world of APs. I am better trying to understand the current state of APs and comparing it to popular Rolex models, which I am more familiar with.
-What are the most popular models? -How difficult are they to come by? Are they as difficult as SS Rolexes or even more difficult such as the Ceramic Daytona or Blue Skydweller where they go over MSRP by ridiculous amounts? -How is general value retention of modern APs? The two which have caught my attention are the 15400ST White and the 44mm ROO Titanium Chrono and so I just wanted to learn more about them. Thanks for providing insight! |

Rather than waiting to be spoonfed a synopsis, put the time & effort into reading the numerous threads that exist on this (and other forums), which will give you a much better/deeper understanding and the necessary confidence to move towards purchasing one of the models you’re interested in.
If, after that, you still have specific questions about the shortlisted pieces (non value retention related), then just ask. |

If you have those two in mind then do a search here as PJ says, lots to learn and no short cuts.

Chrono 24 will help you, just type the model references in, and as already mentioned, search the forum

My observation has been that the non Chrono, SS models will sell for over list/hold value better than the Chrono SS models, which sell for a discount on the secondary market (though I am unsure if you can get a discount from AD). I opted for a black dial 15400 as it's discontinued now and I liked the dial more than the new 15500. I was told by my AP boutique that the values will rise on the 15400 since the price of the 15500 increased, as well as the inherent supply shrinkage of a discontinued model.
Also- if you look at previous discontinued models (I believe 15300, though I could be wrong) they seem to be holding very steady, which may or may not serve as an indication of potential value retention for the 15400. Cheers. |
