Icon10 Explorer 214270

Well, I did it. I now have my first Rolex. I was surprised about the entire Rolex purchasing process - I knew absolutely nothing. It truly boggled my mind that the ADs did not have the "professional" watches. Said to myself: Excuse me Self, you mean to tell that watches are professionals? Why don't these ADs have an inventory? I thought a watch merely gives you the time plus whatever complications are on the watch! One AD in lower Manhattan didn't even have a waiting list - or at any rate declined to take my name. Why is it that ADs lack an inventory of watches that you can try on and see how it feels on the arm? Whats going on with this Rolex thing? I only began a search for a new self winding watch (now referred to as "automatic") because my eight year old microbrand watch with an ETA 2428 movement was no longer functioning properly. I had to set an example. Afterall if I don't treat myself well, who will? My search brought me right to Rolex's Explorer and that was it! IMHO, it is a really fine looking, sturdy timepiece that is highly versatile and accurate - I couldn't beat it with a stick! I noticed despite nearly nine years following the 2010 modification from 36mm to 39mm that there are purists and others who are still resistant to the change. However, I tried on the 36mm on the old wrist and FWIW even with my 7 1/8 inch (18cm) wrist the 39mm looked better. Now, I realized the 14270 and the 114270 are classics. However this watch is not going to some sort of safety queen sitting in a case. This watch would be getting a great deal of my wrist time, so I preferred to go with what I deemed to be the superior watch: "better movement, accuracy, the parachrom hairspring, paraflex shock absorbers, chromalight luminescence and the superior bracelet with the diving safety clasp." Now in the mere four days that I've had the Explorer, it is certainly meeting my high expectations. Of course I will be looking into getting some type of "timegrapher" in order to verify accuracy. Well that's all I wrote.

Well, huge congratulations. I wouldn't worry about the timegrapher either, but if it makes you feel better.

I had seller's remorse for a few years following the sale of my 36mm Explorer. But as time went by I saw the 39mm Explorer 1 at my AD a few months ago, and jumped on it, as they are hard to get and it fits perfectly. No looking back now, I love this watch.

Over the years, I have had many different watches, many different brands, and still do. But Rolex keeps drawing me back. I could care less about the stigma some people feel is attached to owning a Rolex, or any other feeling people have about the brand, to me it is just a stellar watch and I always feel good wearing it. And I hope you continue to do so as well.

Matter of fact, the more negatives I hear about the brand, and those who are afraid to wear one because of what other people may think, and because they blame Rolex for how difficult they are to get, when all they are is an excellent watch and great value, the more I love the brand. All that talk simply has the opposite effect on me.

Cheers,
Carl

Congratulations on a great Rolex. The Explorer is one of my absolute favorites; classic, sporty, easy to wear, and versatile. I would not worry about the accuracy or tracking it - just enjoy it.

Congratulations, seems you gave this a lot of thought. Of all my watches, my Explorer is my every day time piece - durable, reliable and discreet. Had it been my first Rolex, it might have been my only. Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for the advice. It appears there may be a learning curve that goes along with the timegrapher. I will take your suggestion into consideration and for now forgo that timegrapher....however at this time I'm compelled to report that the watch appears to be a fraction of a second off.

My Explorer 214270

Well, I have been trying to post these photos for quite awhile. Finally I reminded a Flickr account and it an event longer time export the photos from my computer to Flickr and create an album for the photos. Next time I will go the easier route and borrow someone's kid to show me how. Well let's see what happens I'm posting link or two photos. Here goes:

If this does not work, I giving up for today

I have to hand it to Rolex. The Explorer is versatile. One is neither over nor under dressed in any attire.
