Datejust 41 - Jubilee too flashy?

I am wondering if anyone who has a DJ41 can give me some perspective. I am really loving this watch with the blue dial, and I have decided to go with either the smooth bezel / jubilee combination or the fluted bezel / oyster. I know most people do the opposite, but I tried on all 4 combos today and this is what I liked best.

I am usually a somewhat under the radar guy, but after flipping a few watches throughout 2018, I ended up with an OP39 white and well.. I have to admit I am a little underwhelmed. It just feels small. I am not in love with it the same way I am with my Submariner every time I put it on, but I need something I can dress up a bit more.

Do you feel the fluted bezel is overly flashy on this watch?

Fluted / jubilee is iconic, in my personal opinion it isnt too flashy, that said you have the seed of doubt in your mind. If it doesnt sing to you walk away

Flashy?

I think it is. I got a few weeks ago DJ, blue dial, Jubilee and smooth bezel and I feel I made the right choise. Furthermore, WG is turning yellow with time.

Best,
Kari

I think a fluted bezel jubilee DJ41 and a sub are the perfect combo for any occasion. If you want to fly under the radar then you can wear the sub and if you want to dress up more you can wear the DJ41

If you were underwhelmed by the smooth bezeled OP, why consider the same look in the DJ?

Sticks & Diamonds on jubilee, Romans on oyster

The fluted bezel is feminine and more suited to ladies datejust. I think the best combo is smooth bezel + jubilee.

I do not think the jubilee bracelet is too flashy. Classic, somewhat retro and right on the proper watch.

#CommonSense

You sound like you want flashy, so go for it. And no, a DJ is no too flashy with the oyster braclet IMO. Just whatever you do, don’t go smooth bezel.

Never understood the flashy thing.. for the most part, no one looks at your watch, except maybe another fellow WIS now and then. Buy what sings to you and rock it.

A matter of taste I would say, I personally love the jubilee and fluted look.

Depends on what you like. Smooth and jubilee was the perfect mix between modern and flashy for me. Some like the fluted, but in all honesty it doesn’t do it for me.

I think jubilee and fluted is just a bit too flashy for me. But jubilee on smooth or oyster and fluted are two excellent choices. I'm very interested in a jubilee, smooth, rhodium w/ sticks DJ. Jubilee adds nice variety from the two Rolex I have both on oyster.

I just picked up a 41mm DJ, went smooth bezel, Blue/Roman Dial and oyster bracelet. While everyones opinion is purely subjective, the bezel and bracelet were easy decisions for me. Not a fan of a fluted bezel or the jub bracelet at all.

I have the blue II with fluted bezel and oyster bracelet and I don't think it's too flashy at all. The oyster bracelet sort of tones down the flash a little vs the jubilee so maybe that's a good middle ground.

I started with a smooth bezel and flipped for a fluted. Have never regretted that decision for an instant. The fluted look is iconic and I highly recommend it.

I went from an OP39 blue to a DJ41 blue with smooth and jubilee and couldn’t be happier.
I didn’t want too much flash, hence no fluted bezel. I also thought the upgrade cost for the bezel was crazy.

The jubilee is definitely flashy.
It's the reason why my BLRO feels a lot more flashy than my LN ever did.

However, between the two combos you mentioned, smooth/jubilee or fluted/oyster I think the fluted/oyster would be the more blingy option. The fluted bezel captures light like no other, plus the oyster with PCL is blingy in its own right.

So if you want more under the radar go for smooth/jubilee.

Jubilee and fluted. Yes it's flashy but not obscene. It's a classic watch.

I've yet to get one on my wrist in person, but from the photos I've seen the smooth/jubilee combo does not look "too flashy" to me. A bit dressier than an oyster to be sure, but doesn't strike me as being jewelry. I'd like to add a smooth/jubilee DJ41 in either white or rhodium to pair with my Explorer some day.

Edit - read the OP again and I'm confused about what he's asking. His thread title says one thing then his post says another. Is he asking if the jubilee bracelet is too flashy or the fluted bezel is too flashy? I'm not personally a fluted bezel guy - a little too dressy for my personal taste.

I've had this same conundrum.

Jubilee + Fluted is too flashy for me.

I'm looking for a blue SS smooth / Jubilee.

I have the fluted and oyster. I think it's the perfect combination. Dressy and sporty at the same time. Very versatile. Also, the fluted bezel is the classic rolex design- cannot leave that out.

Jubilee bracelet with the fluted bezel is the only combination I'd wear with a Datejust. The blue dial version with white gold fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet in the new 41 mm case is beautiful. Something I actually would like to wear.

One thing you didn't mention was your age. The oyster presents a more youthful sporty vibe in my opinion, while the jubilee is maybe a more dressy and "mature" look if I can say that without offending anyone. Just something to consider...

I feel like fluted and jubilee is a bit much....however any and all DJ's look great to me.

If I were to get one I'd go rhodium dial, smooth bezel, jubilee bracelet. That's a killer combo. I honestly don't think there's a wrong answer though.

Have fun choosing!
