Buy a GMT Master 2 black bezel now, or wait for pepsi?
Hi all,
I fell in love with the GMT Master 2. I would like to buy the (brand new) Pepsi or Batman models in stainless steel. At my local AD, there's one GMT Master 2 black bezel available which they are keeping for me for a few days only. I like it very much in black too, but I would ideally love to have the Pepsi or Batman. I have never bought a new Rolex, so I'm not familiar with the waiting times and procedures. All ADs I called throughout Europe told me they have no GMT Master 2 stainless steel (even the black bezel), and that waiting times are long especially for Pepsi and Batman. I'm thus conscious I have here a nice opportunity. My questions for you, the Rolex community, are: 1) Is there really so much waiting times for Pepsi/Batman, or is it just because I'm unknown at those ADs that they don't want to sell me any? 2) Is it worth letting go this all black bezel GMT to potentially have a Pepsi or Batman a few months from now? Many thanks! |

I would wait for what you really desire, and let whoever is dying for the LN to get the chance at it.

Are you comfortable with getting both LN and the BLNR or BLRO ? If so, snag the LN now.
That's what I ended up doing and a month later got the call for the BLNR. Honestly I wear the LN much more. Find the all black more versatile. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk |

If you can only get one, go with your heart. I love my LN but if I was set on getting a Pepsi or BLNR, I'd never be satisfied with anything less.

I would rather wait for the one you really want. You claim you live in Europe, where is your AD? Some countries/ADs have better chances getting the model you want. You are not giving us much info to go by. I would say if you live in London or some other large metropolitan city, the demand is high and chances lower.

Get the one you actually want. I prefer the LN out of the three. BLNR will be much harder to source, and BLRO is pretty much impossible right now if you don't have a relationship with the dealer.

Thanks everyone for your quick inputs.
I agree with you, I should buy the one I want. I consider the LN as the one I want, and the other 2 as the ones I also want (but a bit more) I guess I could also buy the LN, and when I'll get the call from AD for one of the other 2, I'll improvise (i.e. keep both or sell the LN). I prefer not to disclose my location, but I'm in a large city (>1M inhabitants). Are the waiting times very long at your ADs too for those 3 GMTs? Thanks! |

But now the question is do you want the LN because it's available or do you actually like it? Based off the thread being made in the first place, doesn't sound you are fully committed to the LN and would prefer one of the other 2 options.
Personally I'd wait for the BLNR but I'm biased since I have one. In certain light the bezel can look all black, similar to the LN and I think the blue hand matches up with my wardrobe better than green would. Even though both are only really noticable by me. Good luck in your decision. Also, some people hate gray market because of principle, but getting a BLNR there is cheaper than buying 2 watches to finally get what you want. At least I get to enjoy the watch I love in which I have no intentions of selling and eventually passing down to my son when he gets older. |

I was in your same situation several months ago. My AD was pretty up front and laid it out for me that the BLRO was not in my future for the next several years because of such high demand from existing customers. That's the chance you will take if you wait: anyone with a purchase history can jump the line in front of you.
I ended up going with the LN and I find it totally satisfying. Do I still love and want the BLRO? Yes. Will I buy it if I get the call in a year or two? Probably. But I won't be selling my LN to fund it, that's for sure. Hope that helps! |

Never settle, wait for the GMT you really want.

Maybe a different view, but given the current market climate and resale values, you can basically rent the LN for minimal (perhaps no) cost until the watch you desire is available.
You get to try the LN and see if you really love it. I find I don’t know if I really love a watch until having it on the wrist a few weeks. It may surprise you! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I would recommend getting the black gmt now and telling your AD you still want one of the others ASAP. You can sell the black one once one of the others come in. Wait times seem crazy everywhere, especially outside of the US

The LN is one of my favorites. I don't think you can go wrong with picking it up now and seeing what happens with one of the others...heck, you may be waiting years.
Good luck! |

If you can afford to get the one you want down the road, then there's nothing wrong with getting the LN now and keeping or flipping it later when the one you want comes available. If not, then wait for the one you want. It might be a while, but it will be worth it.

I prefer the 16710 Pepsi on Jubilee. Don’t get me wrong, the blro is a cool watch but, the classic does it for me. However, I’ve fallen into the trap of buying “second best”, I assure you the yearning just gets more acute

I live in The Netherlands and this morning I’m going to 3 city’s in Germany to look for the LN. Please, please, please contact me if you decide not to buy it. Since you don’t have a relationship with your AD, you might be waiting a long time for both the Batman and the Pepsi. At least a year for Batman and 3+ years for the Pepsi. I would get the regular GmT now, enjoy it and if you ever get the chance to get the other two, you can always sell the regular one.

This.... If you don't mid waiting 1-3 years for BLNR/BLRO then wait... To me, that's a stupid long time for a mass produced stainless steel watch when life is really short. I'd either buy grey marker here or get the LN as stated above, sell it in 1-3 years when or IF you get a BLNR/BLRO. good luck |

I have the blnr and BLRO, love the blnr it and was on my wrist for quite a while. When I got the call couple of days ago for the LN I just couldn’t let is go. I agree with an earlier comment I could see how the black will be the daily watch. It is just different.
In my view go check the watch and try it before you make your call. Those watches don’t come very often |
