AP RO Chrono VS Daytona

AP RO Chrono 26331ST vs 116500LN White Dial

If you could have one regardless of price which one would you choose?

I think they are both workhorse chronos that you can wear everyday with the Grey Market bringing them near the same price point anyway.

All the best.

They’re both amazing watches. The finishing on the AP is second to none. The Daytona is an icon. Hard to choose. I think it would come down to what else I own. If it’s going to be a daily I’d go daytona. If it’s an addition to an existing collection I’d go ROC!

If you want to wear it and not suffer enormous production and reliability concerns-Rolex.

If you are enamored w MK like fashion trends-AP or Hublot.

I don't think anyone regards AP as "work horse".

Mine acts just fine as one on a daily basis.

Tough choice. Every collection needs both. But I’d always lean towards the ROC...

I'm about to find out (although not a ceramic Daytona) I have these two incoming in the next few days. Trying to shift my collection around a little and consolidate.

I won't say they will be daily watches but I expect to wear each at least once a week.

I would disagree. The ROC movement is one of the greatest chronograph movements ever made.

Daytona, though I would miss my date window.

Might be in the minority here but I never liked the look of Genta styled AP or Patek’s. Appreciate the quality finish but they are fugly.

I'm relatively new toAP and have owned a SS Daytona and now a PM Daytona. Given the choice, I'd go with the AP ROC for sure.

I love the Daytona, but it drives me to distraction that the left and right sub-dials on the Daytona aren’t centered. The left sub-dial is much closer to the 10 index than the 8 index, and the right is much closer to the 2 index than the 4 index. To my eye, this makes the Daytona dial unbalanced, whereas the AP dial is perfectly balanced in that regard.

I wore my AP to the driving range a few times, it is not a workhorse... i personally wouldn't even label it as a sports watch, although it is.

Daytona on the other hand never missed a beat (golf, swimming, running), still running less than +1 sec a day.

Longevity wise, I'd stick with with a Daytona, if I want others to "temporarily" "ooh and ahh" then I'd go with the Royal Oak. Mind you, AP watches aren't as durable and cost a few pennies more to service.

For a chrono alone I'd side with the Daytona and try to add a RO for a time/date only watch in my collection for more special occasions. Full disclosure - that's exactly what I am trying to do right now. Have the white DaytonaC and waiting on a blue dial RO (15400 now 15500 waitlist).

Beauty and finishing: AP, no contest.

RO looks blocky and unfinished to me. I much prefer the look and size of the Daytona!!! Last thing I need is a 41mm large wearing watch!!!

To me, it’s a tough call as the AP is more ledigble, but don’t like the design at all. Given I wear my watches doing everything, I can’t stomach the idea of a watch that pretends to be a sport watch but can take the punishment of any actual sports. Experts on AP can correct me, but other than finishing the Daytona movement is as accurate, and certainly more robust? If you plan to wear the AP at the office, I give the edge to the AP on ledigibility grounds.

Not for sports beside hotel pool swimming/gym - predominantly because it would get in the way for my usual gym training etc. The movement can take it though without doubt.

Hiking wouldn’t be a problem whatsoever. I probably wouldn’t risk shock damage from something like golf or tennis but also wouldn’t with any mechanical watch.

The rubber strap is perfect for daily activities as it makes the watch incredibly comfortable and a breeze to clean.

A few in use shots below.

That’s good to know. Because In that case, I would give the edge to the RO. My beef with my Daytona is the legibility is terrible, not only due to the shine, but not enough hash marks on the subdials. Not to mention the screw down pushers. For folks like me who use my watch (and not my phone for the time) this is an issue!

What are you talking about? You think the F. Piguet 1185 is unreliable and the RO is a fashion trend?
