What is overpolished?Not Polished?

Hi Guys

I normally dont pay much attention, but recently few of my friends ask or told me that watch is over polished?

Bought it pre-owned from one of the well known seller here in TRF and No, I didnt ask about the polishing.

Can you guys with your eagle-eye please help to confirm?
I never really pay attention, until someone said "why is the lug on the crown side is narrower/thin than the other side"

I had to removed the bracelet and check for my self and kinda can see the what they are talking about.
Watch is Y serial and it does look one side is smaller even though I can still feel it is sharp

Any thoughts, Inputs, Ideas as I am totally blank on this

thanks heaps

From my understanding the crown side lugs are narrower by design, IIRC.

Well, a couple of things to mention. I don't know that it has been polished at all. I can still see the tool marks on the case and that is one of the things that kind of fascinates me about Rolex is that they leave tool marks on the case on the SS models (at least the older subs.)

Also, just eyeballing my recent purchase, a basically unworn 14060M it appears the lugs are slightly different sizes. Or maybe they are not. But that watch looks almost unworn.

What is overpolished?Not Polished?

If you are as “blank” as you say...then continue to be blissfully unaware.

You were enjoying your watch, right?

I can plainly see the end of the lug you highlighted has been polished thinner than the other.

While it’s true the oyster case is not symmetrical, the tips of the lugs start out the same until folks ask the case to be polished and watchmakers are asked to take out dings.

Eventually you take off metal.

Ok so for my knowledge, it is by design that the lug on the crown side is narrower than the other side?

The watch looks fine :-)

All the more reason to appreciate the 6-digits with the fatter lugs.

Hey, OP, stop it. That is an awesome watch and you have no reason to worry about polishing. I call it how I see it and all I see there is a very desirable watch.

That is correct has been the case for decades on most all of the professional line up.

This was a valid question, I personally didn't know the case was not symmetrical and I would have question myself if someone had pointed it out. you don't know what you don't know :) I have a 16710 D series, love the watch !! Enjoy it

The thinnest lug is overpolished, the other look good but now the symmetry is thrown off

Really? That's very interesting I did not know that.

Do you know why? Is it with all models or certain references ?

Not true, the crown side is machined thinner at the factory (as mentioned in posts above).

Can’t say why, only Rolex knows why. But it has been done for years with the ones having crown guards.

If I was going to speculate, it would be to make the center of gravity align with the geometric center (side-to-side). Ergo balance...

Is there a clear example of one watch shown in 3 different states: unpolished, light polish (or a polish that looks good), and an overly polished? I hear people here and on videos to avoid overpolished watches, but I don't know why exactly why something is overly polished.
