Mom's Datejusts

Was just at Mom and Dad's place, and decided to take a closer look at Mom's Datejusts.

The first is a 79160 from July 2005. It was a present from my Dad to my mother for her 50th Birthday, and also to celebrate having paid off the mortgage on their house, 15 years after having immigrated to Canada. I still have a very fresh memory in my mind of going with my parents to the AD, and the emotional moment for both my parents when they could pay cash for such an item of excess. My mother has worn it close to daily for the better part of 12 years and it is still in incredible shape.

I also have very distinct memories when Rolex came out with the new solid centre link Jubilee bracelet, and it was a fly in the ointment for my mother as she thought the Datejust bracelet felt cheap.

The second, is a SS/Everose Datejust that I bought for her in December 2017 to make up for all the crappy and half thought out Christmas and birthday gifts I've given her over the years. My mother has been in love with it, but has been more reluctant to wear it, finding it "blingy". But I told her to make it her daily as her retirement day is coming up in a few weeks.

For her retirement, me and my Dad are planning her next Rolex to celebrate her retirement and 30 years of an amazing career coming to an end. We've for the most part, settled on this:

Very nice story and very nice presents for your Mam.

How big is the YM in comparison to her current watches?

Are you sure she is going to love the rubber bracelet and wear the YM?

Just to be safe, get the 40mm one. So if she decides she doesn't like it, you can wear it.

Haha, so when I owned the YM 40mm late last year, it's actually how the 37mm got her attention. She loves how youthful the YM is, comfortable and legible!

I'm probably going to take her to the AD on the weekend to try it on, along with a couple of others to see if there's anything else she might like!

I'm not sure why I made this thread, but maybe the point was to show that watches can tell a very personal story, and how even that simple ladies Datejust brings back so many memories for me and was part of the catalyst for me getting into watches.

You make her more happy by being a great son than buying her great gifts!
