Has the 16710 feeding frenzy started to abate?

Sold my 2000 GMT Master II Pepsi full package unpolished to my brother just before prices went through the roof. Of course you never miss something until its gone. Been looking for a while to replace it but have been put off by the stellar prices. However, I (think) I've noticed a bit of a cooling off and prices starting to drop slightly. It also looks like the prices for the new SS GMT Pepsi have softened a bit too. Reality or just my wishful thinking?

Also noticed this as well it seemed to have plateaued for now. Prices are still high but I don’t see them disappearing as fast. In fact David sw still has a bunch for sale for the past couple of weeks. Right now might be a good time to buy if you’re in the market.

I haven't seen the 16710 dropping so much but I have seen the 126710 BLRO dropping slightly, lowest I have seen is low 16k.

This is a random thought but somewhat on the topic, but do you think 16710 and other 'hot' models might be in a pre-basel pause versus slow down? It seems like with the 'unobtanium' about to be unveiled, the money might being held to see 'what's new' versus chasing existing grails.

Sure did. Sold it to him last January (2018) for what I paid for it: $6000. He calls me his favourite brother :-)

I think the 16710 will always have a particular cachet, in its 6-in-1 versatility. This versatility is something no other model in the history of Rolex can offer - not even the 16700 (if you stay true to the insert and bracelet options that were available during its run).

Barring the balloon slowly deflating (I don't agree with the term bubble) and affecting all SS, I think the value of the 16710 is safe.

I dunno. If the BLRO becomes more available (and the colors were really corrected) and the LN gets the upgraded movement I cant see many folks opting for a 16710 over a 126710 or whatever the new code is. Getting those replacement inserts/bracelets is getting harder and harder and swapping them out was cool on a $3k watch but becomes dicey in a 10k watch IMHO. So if there is a 6 digit SS Rolex supply surge I'd expect the 5 digit market to soften considerably.

At least this is what I tell myself as I watch 16710 prices slowly rise

Getting those items is not difficult. And swapping the insert out is really easy and straightforward. It can be done in a few minutes.

They don't make the 16710 anymore. Values will go up. Maybe more or may be less than returns elsewhere, but they are not going to get cheaper.

I don't think it is going down either ... the demand for the only watch that can have 6 different variation will always be there.
even if the new model comes with a brand new movement , Rolex wont release a watch with 3 inserts and two bracelets... my two cents

I think movement and availability aside, there will be those (like myself) who don't like the maxi case or the maxi case is just too big for their wrists. Now, if they reverted back to the original case size, then you would probably be right.
