Storage & Rotation
I question if i may.
For those of you with a bit of a collections lets say 3+ watches, how do you store and rotate your watches. They obviously cant all be worn at the same time and the larger the collection results in a large amount of money left unaccompanied. Do you select a watch a week and secure the others. A few watches etc etc. Leave them all out to select one each day? I dont want to have to set watches each day so am thinking teh 1-2 watches a week in rotation at the moment. Do you store on winders or just let the battery drain. Very interested in what people do. |

I'm assuming you don't mean "battery drain", but are talking about automatic watches winding down.
For me, I have 10ish I wear regularly, different watch each day. I just keep them in a watch box and let them wind down when not wearing them. Not that hard to set them, and no need to keep them running for over a week of down time. If setting is a big problem for you, then just use a winder, tons of people do.

A wall mount cabinet with winders for the autos. I don't always turn them on depending on how soon I expect to wear a watch next and of course the Speedy is manual wind. I keep the collection at a mb manageable size so no offsite vault storage. If I'm traveling for a time they may get moved to my safe.

By default all my watches (minus the G-Shock) sit in a watch box in the safe. I have a dual winder next to the bed.
Generally I have two watches out of the box at a time and I pick which one I want to wear depending on how I feel on any given morning and the other one stays in the winder. I swap pairs of watches in an out of the safe every couple of weeks. That’s all gone out the window since I got 126600, though the novelty will probably wear off soon enough.

Sometimes I go by season. I have a tough time wearing anything but my Sub or Daytona though. Sub with glidelock is perfect daily and Daytona in time only is great to pick up and wear when you get the urge.

I think anything more than 8 watches becomes extremely hard to really wear consistently, and I would bet most of those who have more than 8 watches find that some of them never get worn. I have 3-4 lower end watches that I truly never wear, and my 3 "luxury" watches get worn all the time depending on which I feel like wearing that day

I store mine in a box in the safe. I select a watch to wear depending on which I fancy at that time. If I don’t fancy a particular watch on the day I just stick with the one that’s out.

Furthermore, watches can have value beyond wearability that makes them worth keeping. I’ll never get rid of my Tag because it was my first nice watch and a graduation gift from my mum and the Speedy was a very generous wedding gift from my in-laws. I suspect many collectors of multiple watches have sentimental attachments to many of their pieces.

I have a 3 watch rotation. Two Rolex and a 2007 pre-Citizen buyout stainless steel Bulova Harley Davidson beater watch. For the time being I daily wear the Explorer and keep the DJ TT on a winder for business casual and more formal occasions.
Hope to add a Bluesy Sub in the months ahead and get totally confused on what to wear. |

I might not be normal. I rotate (but not in a pattern) between 13 and they pretty much all get equal wrist time. I usually pick it the night before based on what I'm going to wear and the mood I'm in. I don't use winders because I'll just wind it the night before.

All but the one I wear for the work week sit in a watch box in the safe. The one I wear I take off each night and pop in a Casebudi on my dresser.
I usually swap out again Friday night if we go out after work. Then, I wear that watch all weekend and pick a different one on Sunday night for the following work week. I think I'm just lazy. Safe is in the basement of a 3 story (not including basement) house. |

I have three watches and I have a set routine. During the working week at the office I wear my DJ on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, my GMT Wednesday and my Sub on Friday. Weekends I wear my GMT or Sub either one on Saturday or Sunday that takes my fancy. I put all my watches on my winder when not on my wrist. I reset the time to the second on all my watches to my iPhone clock on the 1st day of the month, 5 months of the year I correct the date. Twice a year I adjust the GMT to daylight saving time changes. I set my watch winder to run for 3hrs then rest for 6hrs and I have no problems they keep running nicely, I rarely manually wind them. The four watch winder for mine and my wife's DJ is on our bedroom chest of draws so that each time I go into the room I can admire them!

I wear mine on strict weekly rotation. I love my Sunday morning ritual of getting the watch from the safe, winding it, setting the time and date, sometimes I wash the watch with soap, warm water and a soft brush. Gives me a lot of pleasure.

i wear my favourite pretty much all the time (smurf) and at home i wear two watches (castro style). watches not being worn are strewn about the bedroom in one of 3 locations (insurance is sketchy right now for all but one and i hate the idea a burglar gets them all). my new ap 15400 is the only one that gets to stay in a watch case. i store others on bookshelf etc. nothing is on a winder. they run out of juice all the time. i don't mind, i'm a bit of a nut for using the crown and hand winding.

I have a sixteen watch collection and a group of less expensive sport/dive watches. I used to try to have a system about which one to wear and when but I found that to be overthinking it for me. I wear what I want, when I want and for as long or short a time as I want. Some watches do not see the light of day for weeks or a month but that is ok. It works better for me. Just because I don't wear a watch a lot at the time does not mean I will not wear it more later. The Tudor Pelagos Blue and the Tudor Heritage Chrono Blue get a lot of wrist time in the spring and summer but do not get any time fall and winter. Just one of those things.

I have 3 at the moment, patiently waiting for the 4th, and although I only go to work with my SD, when I'm on leave, its based on whatever takes my fancy on the day, or if I have a dinner/function that evening. They are stored in a Wolf watch roll in my safe when not on my wrist.

I’ve got 4....all are on show but not in winders......I just pick what ever one I fancy that day, and wind it up if it’s stopped. I just let the others wind down that I’m not wearing.....I used to keep them on winders but the winder knackered the rotor in my 16570 so just let them run down till they’ve stopped unless I fancy wearing one again before it stops.

I have 4 automatics (DJII, BLNR, BB GMT, TAG Grand Carerra) and a G Shock atomic. They all get worn pretty much equally and randomly depending on how I feel that day, what I am doing, and what I am wearing. Sometimes I will switch mid day. The automatics all are on winders when not being worn. I do not like having to reset any of my watches. Defeats the purpose of just picking the watch I want that day and heading out. All have been very accurate with this process averaging less than +/-1 second per day over months. I reset them when they get off by 30 seconds which is only every couple of months.
