Watches on social media recommendations

I've never really been into social media in general or amateur online content. I've always kind of thought, "who cares what one random bloke with a camera and internet connection thinks of the price of fish?"

I've not done a full 180 on this, but have recently started dabbling in checking out some YouTube channels and there's some OK content relating to watches, obviously hidden amongst some absolute steaming horse manure. I'm thinking of you Archie you nugget.

I quite like the Watchfinder videos, which can be informative and the narrator has quite a soothing, hypnotic voice. Bark & Jack is decent too, though Adrian says "Rolex" in a weirdly of-putting way.

Can anyone recommend other sources of good online audio-visual watch-related content, preferably delivered by people who possess an indoor voice and a degree of objectivity?

There are now a lot of million and multi-millionaire influencers now so SM advertising is big business, esp with the under 30s. Fashion and make-up are the biggest areas but watches won't be too far behind, just the price points are stumbling blocks so more mature forums like this still have their place.

Are you looking for reviews that are shilling products or real reviews? Because that is two totally different things.

some are kind of both. No question WF has some of the most informative and well done videos there are. They also sell watches.

The do have great videos. They only review what they sell. Integrity? I do not know.

Check out Watch Report, Take Time w/Patrick, and 555Gear. I know for a fact they are not shills.

Good, informative reviews. In fact part of the reason I started this thread was that I went onto YT to find some decent watch reviews and half of what I could find was wideboys/bros/geezers flashing their blinging "Batmans" and "Hulks" at the camera whilst gurning furiously and talking loudly. I'm sure that stuff has it's place, it's just not for me.

Watchfinder is great - some amazing macro shots and good information.

I also like Eric from CRM jewelers. He’s more the light entertainment end of things but has some great sports pieces usually. He is not everyone’s cup of tea though for sure.

He's exceptional at what he does. I love watching his videos. The way he enunciates certain words is like ASMR.

I like J. Anthony’s content as well as that from “Just One More Watch.” The watchfinder videos cant be beat in terms of photography and presentation. Hodinkee puts out great content too, I especially like James Stacey’s pieces.

I’d recommend these YT channels:
Horology House
Bark and Jack
Bijou Diamond Jewellery

I like Bark & Jack as well.

J. Anthony - just a regular guy talking watches.
Watchbox - Tim Mosso's knowledge is freakish.
Bear Clooney - not a lot of content, but mostly this guy reminds me of a dear friend that I lost a few years ago (more a sentimental thing by association I guess)

I haven't seen watchfinder, but from the recommendations here, I'll check them out.

edit:
Just watched some Watchfinder content. Viewing Watchfinder is a very pleasing experience. The narrative format reminds me of a David Attenborough nature show during his much younger years.

Second this. I downloaded the Hodinkee app, feel like the content is relatable, informative and they do written and video content.

its exactly like those nature shows. You sneak up on rare creatures you will never see in real life. You live vicariously through the show

Armand the Watch Guy and Tim Mosso are right up my alley, thanks for those

The former has a couple of videos detailing a chronological history of the Submariner and the Sea-Dweller which are a really excellent introduction for vintage Rolex noobs like me.

Weirdly, I prefer reading to watching videos so I've read a lot of Hodinkee content on their website and I agree it's very good. I will check out the videos and work my way through all the other suggestions eventually.

Many good suggestions above, and I have to admit I’m an addict and watch most YouTube watch channels

Watchdinder is owned by Richemont group, so I’m cautious as to their comparison/review outcomes.

weirdly enough i have yet to watch a reichmont group video on their channel.

Its the same videos pre and post with the same people FWIW

edit: i take that back. ALS. But not the typical reichmont brand you would expect.

TheWatches.tv is a great channel with lots of good content and segments. Search their profile and you’ll find some real content. Particularly impressive is their approach is more like a news channel rather than a blog.

Hodinkee’s Talking Watches is fun, but often the segments seem too short.

The blog videos and sales videos don’t interest me much as they tend to follow the same format, and provide only opinions and anicdotal information. Most annoying for me are videos in which the presenter does not have the watch in studio, in hand, and potentially had no actual experience but yet post a video asserting experience and expertise.

i like talking watches a lot. Not really that informative from a watch perspective, but interesting about what people choose to have in their collections.
