I love the Tahitian MOP dials. As you can see by my avatar, I'm a big fan of Tahitian pearls.

I stole this pic from someone's Ebay listing since I don't actually have a Tahitian MOP dial. Sorry.
Jeannie Oops! I see Richard beat me to it. Black MOP and Tahitian MOP are the same thing. |

I dunno, the sodalite kind of looks like a cheap kitchen counter.

Here's one from my 1988 Bark President that I took off when I sold the watch. Made from real wood and looked great on that DD.

Rolex Goldust dials are pretty amazing, mother of pearl coated with 24k gold.

Is mother of pearl really exotic? I have mother of pearl buttons on my shirts.
In any case, here's a photo of the wife's Rolex. Black mother of pearl dial with Arabic numbers. It's hard to capture the full beauty of the dial since it changes colors in various light. You can see a tint of green in the photo. |

I think MOP would be considered out of the ordinary, strikingly unusual or strange in effect or appearance. Yep, exotic for sure.
