Hi everyone !

I would like to buy my first Rolex tomorrow, and don't know which one to choose between:

A 16700 from 1994
A 16710 from 2003

Both priced at 10 000 USD.

Which one would you go for ???

Not enough info. Condition, bezel color, boxes and papers, service record, And again condition. I would go with 16710, if both are equal, better movement and the lume is still glowing. 10,000.00 seems high

The question seems to be whether you need quick time zone changes or quick date change. The two models work considerably differently. The 16710 allows changes of the hour hand by itself; in order to advance the date the 24 hour and needs to be spun. Where as the 16700 has quick change date and the 24 hour hand is tied to the 12 hour hands.

Personally I prefer the jumping hour and independent 24 hour hand of the 16710, but if that doesn’t bother you then condition is the key factor here.

16710 no doubt

2003 is no holes cae, many less 16710 without holes

Also solid end links feels more modern

Both are great watches - quick set date v independent hand - can't really go wrong with either. As someone has already stated, condition etc would be a factor but it should be 'win - win' either way!

I would agree with Kenny. Personally, I would go with the GMT 16700 when comparing similar watches.

To answer your questions: they are both in perfect condition, Pepsi bezel, with original papers but no box.
I still have a doubt in terms of investment value for both watches: 10K USD seems to be the correct price based on what I see on internet, but it is today at its highest ever, do you think it is still a good investment at this price ? And that it could still go up in the years to come ?

I think they are both beauties would more less come down to condition. I do prefer the no hole lugs on my 16710 D series. Happy hunting and please post some pics when you get it.

I often rotate watches so I really like the quick set date of the 16700 and that’s what I bought

Prices for these 2 references will only go up since they're discontinued, and the older reference will eventually surpass the newer one.

Slimmer case and far lower production numbers

Perhaps you should buy shares or real estate instead?

However, if answering your original question I’d go for the 16700

16700, "the last of GMT-Master"

16710 was produced for seven more years; on 10 GMT sapphire you see 8 are 710...

16710s and 16700s are identical externally. How you find one to sit better due to its 'slimmer profile' is baffling.

16700 is 11.8mm and 16710 is 12.4mm

16700 far more “rare”. Tritium patina on older models are gorgeous. No Tritium patina on the 16710. Easy choice for me. 16700 all day. Good luck can’t go wrong either way!

$10k is about right for the 16710 but 16700s typically sell for about $2k less.
