Poor offer from AD - UK.

I am currently on the look-out for a Mid-size SS Date with some bling for my long-suffering girlfriend.

Having not had much joy from my threads on here; I went down to my local Stealer yesterday to see what he had and what sort of deal may be on the table, remembering that I had bought 2 watches from him last year (GMT2 and Blue Sub).

I called, made him aware of the nature of my enquiry, made the appointment, and Clare and I turned up at the arranged time.

To cut a long story short, we were looking at items for around the 4.5k GBP mark. I asked what kind of discount I could expect for a cash sale, to be told..............zero. No money off for cash!

He said that because I was an Ex-Pat, I could claim the Tax back. I told him that I fully intended to claim the tax back on the reduced figure which I was wanting in the region of 3.8 to 3.9k GBP.

No deal. He simply would not move.

Is this indicative of Dealers at this time or is Aberdeen bucking the National trend?

I was really looking for 15 - 20% off for a cash deal.

Was I expecting too much?

All thoughts greatly appreciated.

All pointers to a nice Stainless Mid-size with some bling also greatly appreciated.

Colin.

There is a BEAUTIFUL date model in all stainless with diamonds at every other hour marker. I believe it is available in both a white and black dial. and that is BS! you are a returning customer in hard financial times and he wouldnt discount!!!!!! sorry to hear..but that is NO WAY to treat your returning customers...I would try another "stealer"

Here is a photo, and the link to a website that is selling it. not sure of them, as I am in the states, but here is the description:
Gents steel Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date 115234. Automatic chronometer movement . Polished steel case 34mm water resistant to 100 meters. Silver dial set with diamonds and Arabic hour markers, white metal (Rolesor) fluted bezel. Polished and brushed steel Oyster bracelet with easy comfort adjust. Box and papers. Pre-owned UNUSED. Our reference W2876.
(replacement cost £4,020)

£3,575

I had a similar experience with an AD last weekend when I was looking at a 16610LV. The AD politely refused to move on the price. In the end I picked up a mint pre-owned one for significantly less and am more than happy. Especially as I got in before the price rise tomorrow which will take the LV to £3,980 I believe, a 31% price increase over the last year.

Good luck with the search.

Colin

I went to buy a GMT yesterday and had to really push to get 10%. I reckoned that wasn't enough on a gold watch so walked out in the end.

I went back today and had a look at a 2 GMT, a blue sub and a yachtmaster. This time I was offered 5%.

Have a look elsewhere or go for a good pre used. I think some dealers have had stock in last week and know the prices are going up and can make even more money out of you!

I'm waiting. I'm also looking for a GMT I can change bezels on!

Why not get with TempoKing or some of the others on this board for a fantastic price I am sure.

This is the first place I look!

Thanks for the comments and responses guys.

I think I may just have to look for a really nice used watch for Clare; as I am still looking for that ellusive 118238 for myself also.

So if any of you good folk know of a Mid-size Stainless / Stainless + White Gold, with the Jubilee Bracelet and a little bit of "Bling"; then please drop me a line.

Kindest regards,

Colin.

Actually, when I was looking at a new blue sub (SS/Gold), I was quoted about 14% for cash and about 12% for a financed, no interest deal from my local AD...
