Tudor GMT- 7 Days on The Wrist Report

With the pitchforks being resharpened and the torches still smoldering, I thought it would be a nice change to reminisce about the good old days.........2018, for example.

I've worn my new Tudor GMT since last Friday when it was delivered to me, thanks again, Kevin! I wanted to give a few comments on what I've experienced in the last 7 days.

Accuracy: Since setting this watch last Saturday morning [when taking a few pics] it has not deviated + or - one second from the atomic clock. Without question the most accurate and consistent watch I've ever owned.

Bezel: As I've stated before I love the muted Pepsi colors. Also love the font of this classic aluminum insert which I much prefer over ceramic. The coin edge bezel works smoothly and the thin profile adds to the vintage aesthetic.

Crystal: The boxed sapphire crystal appears more like plexi, with all of it's advantages as well. Doesn't show fingerprints, like my 16710, and has a glow like plexiglass.

Dial: The fine silver printing on the dial, along with the thinner profile handset and hour markers creates a vintage vibe that brings a smile every time. In fact, the very first image that comes to mind when I glance at my GMT is vintage, and that's a very nice first impression.

Straps/ bracelet: I was originally looking to use my THC bracelet. But just like my THC the GMT seems best on various straps. The THC bracelet end links really didn't follow the same curve as the case. Also, I think a dark blue strap really brings out the bezel colors. To that point I've experimented with my favorite brand of rubber straps, Bonetto Cinturini, the 328 nato and Zuludiver 400CT. Combined with custom end links the 400CT makes for a perfect combo. Comfortable, matching colors, solid adjustable clasp, and the carbon fiber etching, which is subtle, yet really looks great as it catches the light from different angles.

Movement: As a constant traveler I really love the new in-house movement with the quickset 12 hour hand. It's the reason my 16710 has been a favorite of my collection. The date function has worked flawlessly, changing about 12:05 am nightly. Should the date issue rear it's ugly head, I'll certainly be disappointed but will deal with it.

Just like my THC purchased in 2001, this Tudor GMT really ticks all the boxes for me. The design reaches back to classic elements and the solid modern construction makes for an overall great package. The fit & finish are on par with my 16710 [I can hear the snickers now]. With the exception of this years controversial releases Tudor has caught the imagination of enthusiasts over the last decade and I'm sure they will in the future as well. As long as they give me a reason to dream every 10 years or so, Im happy.

7 days??? Heck, that's almost a full week!

Looks pretty good on that strap.

The BB GMT has been on my list for a while but I was holding out for a 39mm. Maybe next year.

Great photos!

I’ve had mine since October of last year. Mine came on the strap and I immediately ordered the bracelet; and, yes, I’m STILL waiting for it. Your rubber strap combo appeals to me but I’m wondering where the custom end links came from? I also concur completely with your review. I may still purchase the Rolex Version, but I’m not in any hurry now!

The end links are from Smartyjones, a member of TRF. I think they are now sold by Strapfreak in the FS section.

Appreciate the write up Dan and as ever the obligatory brochure quality pics.

Can I ask, how do you find the thickness of the overall watch on your wrist compared to your 16710? I really like this Tudor and passed one up a while ago because of another impending purchase but it is back on the radar for sure at a later date.

Mike, thanks for the kind words. I like thick watches to begin with, my THC being a good example. The chamfered edges along the bottom of the case make the GMT appear thinner in profile and also makes the watch very comfortable. Compared side by side with my 16710 the Rolex case is decidedly thinner but the case back sticks out more than the Tudor and the overall bezel is thicker than the Tudor. In reality, while the Tudor is certainly chunkier it's more in appearance. But thickness can be subjective for each wearer, of course.

It’s a great watch. I’ve had mine since last August. I am (unfortunately) having a problem with its thickness, and so will probably be moving it on.

Congrats on a great watch Dan, glad you're enjoying it. Tudor just keeps knocking it out of the park. Well, maybe not this year

Great pick up dP. I really like the strap on the GMT. How's the watch thickness compared to your Rolex Pepsi - and the weight on the wrist?

Thanks!

Thanks, Jim! It’s definitely thicker than my 16710. But not overwhelmingly so. The flat case back makes it sit close to the wrist so doesn’t wear heavy to me. It does wear big for its size. The chamfered bottom edges add to the comfort.

Great write up and great pictures. I’m with with you on the review. Only thing I would add is I wish the bezel design was better. I agree the bezel turns smoothly but the edges could have been designed with a little more grip so as to render it easier to turn. But I’m nitpicking I suppose. Mine still ‘healthy’ for now but I’m hoping the date issue doesn’t rear its head.
