Rome

Hello TRF,

It was my 40th yesterday and my wife had more recently surprised me with telling me she was taking me to Rome for 3 nights for my birthday. This was in addition to having bought me my DJ41 as an early birthday present at the end of last year.

She had booked an amazing hotel and also arranged a bit of an itinerary to see some of the main sights whilst we were there.

We got lucky with the weather as they just had a warm bust over the weekend and we were greeted with weather that was 22 degrees.

We saw some amazing things and ate some of the best pasta and pizza I’ve ever tried before.

The night of my actual birthday was made even better when we saw the cast of the series ‘Gomorrah’ in the street outside the restaurant we were eating at. I have never been star struck before, until then, when I literally ran out of the restaurant in the hope of getting my picture taken with them. Unfortunately, I just missed them - they were ushered away in to their waiting cars.

I had planned on visiting a couple of the Rolex stores when we went to see the Trevi Fountain but we’d chosen the Sunday when they were all shut.

When we got to the airport on the way home, amongst all the excellent shops they had there, they had a Rolex store.

It was closed temporarily and the sign in the window explained it was whilst they were carrying out inventory check. I spoke to the woman through the shutters who told me to come back in 15 mins and all I thought to myself was that maybe inventory checking meant they’d just taken a delivery - I literally sat there waiting in the hope that they may have a Daytona.

I had lunch with my wife and then rushed back as they had opened.

Only to find, they had a whole store and only 5-6 watches in stock.

They had literally one white gold blue Sub. A DJ34 SS, a DJ36 TT, and a DJ41 TT and the others were random diamond encrusted pieces which I didn’t even look at.

The lady explained that they don’t get any Daytona’s or other sports models sent to them and that they were waiting for some more stock. Bad situation there.

Here are some photos from the trip.

Looks like a fantastic trip - what a lovely gesture by your wife. Shame about the lack of watches though....

Looks like you had a great time, Rome is fantastic, I took my son last year, plenty of Rolex’s in the airport shop when I was there so it looks like times have changed, I pointed to a pic of the Pepsi in the shop and the girl said they have had some come in and it’s always worth asking

Yes I think times must be very different. It was almost an empty shop. Empty cushions everywhere - even my wife joked about the sign they left about inventory. She said to me, what inventory?!

I did see a chap wearing a black ceramic Daytona whilst we had our lunch at the airport on the way back, though.

Hi, thank you!

Yes the snap of the mountains was on the way back as we flew over the alps - beautiful to look at from the sky.

Haha the food shown was a very famous pasta restaurant. Two little ladies who make the pasta and then it’s prepared and cooked and served. We had to queue to get in, it’s that popular a place.

The dessert was from another meal - my birthday night itself - my favourite; profiterole’s.

Happy Birthday and congratulations to you! I've been to Rome three times and loved every second of every day I've spent there. Can't wait to go back!

Biggest question I have with the Rome hotels is, why are the pillows so flat? And like bricks on top of it, c'mon!!

Best Pasta and Pizza I ever had was in Rome too, fantastic place to visit to see antiquities and eat gluttonously, great choice from your wife.

Haha you know, we always say similar things ourselves actually, especially in Greece, too. However, we slept like logs in this hotel - perhaps as we were so pooped having walked around taking so much in, and eating so much as well!

Oh the pizza, too! My wife is pregnant so she had a whale of a time eating, but I had no excuse - I just wanted to try everything. Haha

Thanks

Just noticed my thread has been moved to the open discussions. I appreciate why haha...

I may as well post another few pics as I guess I won’t get in to trouble with the mods for non Rolex-specific chat.

Take a look at some of the favour gelato they had, and these pics were from just one gelateria.

Cheers

Favorite food in Italy when we visit is the pizza and the gelato! I award my self with one gelato per day when we are there.....I guess that would explain the 13lbs I gained this past August for our 4 weeks stay.
