Impressions from a WELL stocked AD

I made a visit to Fourtane in Carmel. Wowee they have a lot of Rolexes! No new SS subs or SS GMT's or SS Daytona's. Yes on SS OP, Explorer I's and a few others. Got that out of the way. But a few impressions.

Rolex just barely seems to be in the business of making SS models. Yeah, there are some. But the cases were loaded with all sorts of PM pieces, some with jewels, every flavor of Daytona in PM, TT/PM subs, etc. The subs were a minor player; even in PM And lots and lots of gold and platinum. Some pricey vintage stuff too. The place was busy. I was there for maybe an hour and one sale was wrapping up as I arrived and another buyer was moved to the desk in back part way through my visit. On a Monday morning.

No one was even looking at the SS or professional models. They were shopping vintage or PM models.

The Daytona in person is MUCH nicer than I imagined. I really liked it. I can see why the SS model is so in demand. But the older vintage models are so much more legible. They have a few older Daytona's that are really nice and over 100K.

Sales staff is very nice. I made a point of letting them know I was just looking and still they kept coming by and chatting, offering to let me try things on and so on.

Thank you for the review. What about Yachtmaster? I’ve seen several of those hit the shelves across the country. Where was this AD located again?

They had a bunch of YM, all types/flavors 1 and II, both PM and SS.

Carmel, CA.

They did! And just a lot of unusual pieces you don't see everywhere. Like this vintage mens and womens set.

Awesome! They keep some of their vintage inventory posted online (although prices are not listed)

I think the womens watch was about 11K, and the mens was around 25K.

The vintage Daytona prices are breathtaking...

No idea about the vintage subs but they had some (not as many as HQ. No idea if the pricing was good. Not my thing. )

The place certainly puts things into perspective. I really like my 14060M, a watch that is somewhat uncommon in my day to day life. Most of my friends have never even handled a Rolex. In that store...? It's just an older model watch. Not new, which is what a lot of people want. And not old and rare (as in one or a few of a kind). It's desirable to be sure, and a great watch in a lot of ways as far as the sub line goes. Out of maybe 50 customers in the store over the period I was there only one was at the professional case and he was asking about his YG sub (I didn't hear the convo).

These guys cater to very high end clientele, pebble beach car show, golf players and rich Californians.
I am sure there are desirable pieces in the stock room!
A nice place nevertheless.

Fourtane is awesome! The staff is wonderful, as is the owner, and their vintage selection is unbelievable. After browsing there a few times, I finally pulled the trigger on a gilt dial 1016 Explorer last week! Looking forward to buying more vintage -- and hopefully some new -- stuff from them in the future.

It’s a really nice store. I was impressed with their vintage selection. Don’t see that every day at the typical Rolex AD.

At what point will 2019 blnr watches considered vintage watches and be held with the same revere we have for a 1960s Daytona?

Josh, the owner, is well connected in the vintage Rolex market ... with guys like Eric Ku.

I met Josh at their boutique grand opening in SDGO. Very nice guy. They have been terrific to me (DSSD D-Blue and GMT BLRO).
