birthday
today is my birthday and i am turning 32. i should feel excited and yet i am so sad today. my parents are going through a divorce and i am in the middle of it. my mom's business is not doing well and i am helping her out financially on a monthly basis due this economy. my job is not going well either. i was supposed to be promoted and was not. this is all due to my manager's reference. i have been working hard to land this new internal position. all he had to do is give a good reference to this chairman and i would have gotten the job. i was highly referred by several executive and VPs, and yet the person that i work the closest with would say something against me. we work well together and i never encountered any problems at all. all projects are great from start to finish. i just found out because the chairman told one of my VP and she told me directly. i am so shocked....why would he say something negative? i am very loyal to the people that i work with and put out my best efforts. i guess people are not always the way they seem and this person has his own agenda. the chairman is still considering me....and i am meeting with his team and staff tomorrow. f$&#! him! i am leaving to a better place.
thanks for letting me vent on this forum.

I hope your birthday gets better. Life deals us some curveballs from time to time, it's how you deal with them that matters. My 40th birthday present was being asked to leave by my ex. I wasn't too happy at the time but now I thank her for the great gift. I didn't realize how miserable we both were until I was able to distance myself from the situation. Good luck, I hope all works out.

Hang in there! Happy Birthday....it's still a special day so go out and do something for yourself. You deserve to have a great birthday! As for work, best of luck in your meeting with the chairman. Don't be shy....SHOW HIM why he should promote you!

Since you don't have all the facts, and were not part of the original conversation, take the high road. Don't react without knowing all the facts. Don't burn bridges...EVER. Do not discuss this with anyone, except us of course. Keep the boss on your side by being a model employee, even if he threw you under the green bus. If not this time, your day will come. Trust me on this one.
You will still have two parents, they just will not be together. That problem will find its own conclusion. Just love them both. Hey, HAPPY BIRTHDAY. |

Focus on the positve. Your story and Joe's post reminded of a wedding speech given by the adult son of the one of the betrothed. He pointed out that years ago his parents divorced when his dad came out of the 'closet' and said he was gay. In his speech the son said the following: "..today I am happy to be at my mother's remarriage because now she can share the cost of my therapy." She was marrying another woman. [This is legal in Massachusetts.]

Happy 32! Your job situation will work itself out. Maybe you boss doesn't want to lose you because you are an asset to him or her. Would this promotion mean that you are no longer working with your current boss? Just a thought.....

Somedays you're the pigeon. Somedays you're the statue. Have a great birthday and wait for when you're the pigeon!

I should mention that it's my lovely bride's birthday as well. Exactly a year ago we were celebrating this day in South Beach. She was sporting a bandanna, relaxing without her wig and happy to put cancer behind her, for good.
One year later and she's hard at work so I can buy another watch. And that wig is just a memory. dP

Thanks he is my youngest. Maybe I am right and if your boss loses you, he loses his worth. You are in a position I was recently in at work where you are good at what you do and it can actually trap you....

It seems natural that if the boss is riding on your work he will not want to see you go. What will he accomplish if you're not there? The other side is that a good manager should always recognise excellence in his team and be secure enough to help his people succeed. Good luck. Don't be bitter. There may be a legitimate reason that you are not aware of.

In a year, the job thing will be a blip that you may not even remember. Plus you will be 33. Just part of the ups and downs of life. Look on the bright side-you have a job.I am very grateful I have a great job every day and bust my ass to keep it that way. The first 3 years were ROUGH, now things are rolling. Jobs are things of longevity many times. Keep your chin up. |
