price for polishing

Hi all,

Anybody care to share how much polishing a watch costs at RSC? I don't mind getting some quotes from wherever you are located. I will be traveling to HK soon and I heard it's quite cheap to get a watch serviced there. The watch does not need an overhaul and is under the 5 year warranty. I'm sure the warranty does not cover a polish, right?

Thanks

It will be expensive since the watch will have to be taken apart, cleaned and probably serviced. I would advise you to wait till the right time.

And while you are here, do not let just anyone polish your watch. It may be hard to fix if the job is done badly. I have seen some shocking examples of that on this forum.

You're a one lucky person! I've been told before that polishing is not part of the warranty and that I would have to pay for the polish if I don't need the overhaul.

It was no longer under warranty. They just did it for me.

And it was only the band...they didn't polish the case.

I think I'll stick to the scratches on my z-blue until the next overhaul, but I must say that it'll be a long wait as my warranty is all the way until 2022/23. I wonder if they do an overhaul within my warranty, they will polish it...

Op, if you ask for a touch up, not a polish they may give it to you as a freebie, no harm in asking.

If you watch is under Rolex 5 year warranty, do not let anyone but RSC or Rolex authorized service center polish or do any repairs on your watch.

I believe I created a thread here talking about how Dallas RSC refused warranty service because the watch was polished. I don’t know what made them make that decision. I have a feeling that to polish the watch as per Rolex spec, the case needs to be opened and watch internals taken out. This is to protect the internals from “vibrations” caused by polishing process/tools??? Once the case is opened by a non-authorized service center, Rolex may have the right to refuse warranty?

I am sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in...

Thanks for the tip right there! I'll make sure to go to RSC only as I've also heard that Rolex knows if an independent has opened up their caseback.

A friend of mine recently sent 2-3 of his ROLEX watches for such services. According to him, not too expensive and seemingly reliable.

The only time any Rolex needs polishing is at normal routine service only every 5-10 years depending on use.And the warranty is mainly for mechanical faults and not cosmetic polishing.

You can get it polish and serviced to keep it in order, if the warranty will not be affected.

No polishing without doing a complete service is the Rolex rule, maybe some independent or AD will make an exception.

Btw...... Rsc did say if the watch is under warranty and it is polished by non rolex approved specialists than the warranty will be invalid.

So true

I see what you did there...

Also, since it’s under warranty, the OP shouldn’t have anyone else try to polish it. They could void the warranty by removing the caseback and movement to polish the case.

Agree if the case is opened. Not as clear if the owner simply did a cape cod cloth DIY. But your cautionary comment is well founded. Some RSC’s can be difficult.

If it were my watch, I’d live with the outrageous scratches and swirls up until the month the warranty expires. Then into RSC for overhaul and spa treatment. You get a like new finish + 2 year warranty.

When I dinged the case side of my watch, Rolex UK agreed to polish it out for me without a full service. They don’t normally allow it but made an exception for me. It was ready to collect in 2 weeks from their London St James address and cost £50.

And if it gets dinged again and again will you still pay £50 everytime it gets a ding.

I would not polish the case. Maybe the bracelet but I am not a fan of polishing. Do you have pictures? How bad is the problem. If the scratches are deep that only means they have to take that much more off. I’d much rather leave it.

I don’t mind light scratches but the ding was quite prominent on the case side at 8 o’clock. Although fairly superficial you could feel it with a fingernail. They completely buffed it out. And £50 for a Rolex polish wasn’t bad.

Did they polish the whole watch or just like you put it the fairly superficial ding on case side.

I asked them to just take out the ding, so I believe they just did a spot polish. I got it back with stickers on both sides of the case though. The £50 was inclusive of VAT, I think.

Oh, and I got it back in a green pouch too No warranty for the polishing-only service though but then it’s not necessary

Yes I believe that is the general rule, but Rolex can make an exception at their discretion , which they did for me

Speaking for myself would have put the £50 cost set aside for next full service, ding would have been removed free as part of service. Plus you would still have got your free green pouch and a two year warranty.
