Desk Diving

Like many on this forum I’m sure, my Sub has fallen victim to years of desk diving. As a lefty, I’ve always worn a watch on my right wrist. Since this is also the hand that controls the mouse, years of desk movement has taken its toll on the clasp. The mousepad certainly helps, but I’ve clearly made contact with the desk over the years as shown in the picture below.

While scratches are inevitable and don’t actually bother me, today the question popped into my head - does anybody here ever switch their watch to the non-mouse wrist while working? This may primarily be geared toward fellow lefties, but I’m curious to see if anyone else ever thinks about this or makes the switch.

Full disclosure, I'm right-handed. But being a pragmatist (sometimes almost to a fault), I say give it a try.

If it feels too weird, you could try a folded handkerchief or microfiber cloth under your mouse wrist.

I’ve tried a few times but it always feels a bit unnatural. My latest solution was to get a larger mousepad

I’m right there with you (a lefty). If I’m typing a seriously long document, then I’ll take my watch off. I have a polishing cloth in my desk and I set my watch on it. Only my paralegal ever sees this and she’s got her own weird practices haha.

Desk Diving

Is it just me - or is your clasp upside down? (Even if you’re wearing it on your right wrist)

If this is the “wrong” way then it’s been like that since I got the watch in 2012!

Interesting. I’m a ‘rightie’ but when I’ve switched wrists the crown always faces my thumb....
(Not that it matters BTW)

Well now I have to look into this given how many people say it normally faces the other way. Perhaps I have a rare model on my hands!

When I first read this comment, I put my two wrists side by side, palm-up, and thought, this is silly, no way, because I just mentally envisioned the bracelet ON the other wrist. Then I actually tried it. Crown on the clasp was facing the thumb!! MIND BLOWN

Funny thing... If I was left handed, I might be tempted to use the mouse with my left hand.

A vertical mouse can help to reduce contact of clasp with table

Looks like a lot of clasp contact to me.

The clasp does look 180 degrees the wrong way around!

I take off my watch off when using my Mac. It just gets in the way.

I'm a lefty & wear it on my left wrist. I've got one of those long gel pads that rests between the spacebar side of the keyboard & me. I take a lot of notes with paper & pencil (versus pen). Graphite wipes off easily.

I know that at work I see most lefties using the mouse with their left hand. That would seem like an easy enough switch to make.

If I'm wearing short sleeves, I take my watch off and rest it on the mousepad while I'm working.

I am a lefty and use my mouse with my right hand also. I have one of those gel wrist pads and my watch doesn't even come close to my desk. It's actually more prone to hitting my desk when typing.

If you are a lefty, wear the watch on your right and use left hand for the mouse.

That would make the most sense but I’ve always used the mouse with my right hand. Can’t imagine trying to make that switch

lefty and wear my GMT on the left. something to consider is the height on your chair, Iam slightly sitting lower than the desk so my wrist are a bit over the desk.
Taking off your watch while typing long document has happened but unfortunately, desk diving will happen.
Though with my super jubilee bracelet, I have noticed less desk diving happening.

That’s exactly why you should keep it in the safe at all times in bubble wrap!

It bothers me all the desk dives too but I figure it will happen at the desk or somewhere else so live with it wear and enjoy till service time and comes back new. Then rinse repeat.
