I had both at one point but sold the RG blue because the blue is an extremely dark blue, someone had a similar question on their 26331ST blue dial asking if it was supposed to be that dark since it doesn't seem so in the computer generated photos.

I think most boutiques do have the leather strap and/or the full RG bracelet blue dial in stock, so it should be easy to see.

That said I still have and plan to keep the TI/PT 26331.

Do you think that the 26331IP and 26331ST are different looking enough to have both in one's collection at the same time?

I would probably take one or the other. But keep in mind the blue dial 26331st is I believe $25K USD whereas the IP is 36.5k.

I can't speak for value retention but to me I did find the blue dial of the 26331 (whether RG or ST) to be pretty dark unless you're out in the sun.

On the flip side I did like the blue sub dials more on the IP vs the silver subdials on the ST.

Yes the blue dial is quite dark on the ST.

I feel that both would be a combination of blue and silver/steel (IP towards the grey side, and ST towards the silver side) - that's why it seems to me that it should be an either/or choice.

The platinum / titanium is just a beautiful piece.

If you had to buy a chrono then that is the best AP piece out there. You have to see it in the flesh to truly appreciate it.

I have both, and yes, would say they are different enough to own both, if you like the overall design, which I do.

I also don't think the blue dial is too dark either. As with most AP blue elements its more a 'royal' blue, and being so in dull light will look black, but in decent light its very dramatic. Personally I think its the perfect shade of blue to go with RG, and a lighter shade would appear too blue in bright light.

The Platinum based on appearance and the bracelet. Buy right, slightly pre-owned or with a good discount new.

I doubt you will find a new one left at any AP boutique. And chance of a discount on top are non existent.

Most grey dealers are currently asking well over retail price for the watch (26331IP). I can’t see this one coming down in price - it’s a limited edition and it’s beautiful.

I would not have a gold ROC on a strap, I did and they wear too easily, I'd get it on a RG bracelet.

Neil, how do you mean 'wear too easily'? Must admit I didn't like the leather strap on my ROC, so I changed it to a rubber one, which I prefer. I've been contemplating upgrading it to a full RG bracelet, but that will reduce the watch's practicality to wear.

Very interesting thoughts - while I concur that the blue is dark, it often seems 'blue' enough (for lack of a better word) to not be confused with black - for me.

Further, if given a choice, would you prefer to own the:
1. IP and OR (Rose Gold) on strap
2. or the IP and ST

The reason I asked my initial question is that both are essentially combinations of blue and grey so it seemed redundant to own both at the same time.

Same question for Neil.

I too would opt for rubber but there's way too much wrist fatigue involved for me to opt for a full bracelet.

The IP isn't a daily wearer, as the polished plat bezel and bracelet links will scratch easily, spoiling it. Neither really is the OR, but on rubber with suitable care it will be less vulnerable to scratching, so of the two more 'wearable'.

Whatever the metal combination, you want your Royal Oak to be set on a metal bracelet. The bracelet makes the watch.

Platinum for appeal (it's a stunner in the metal) and value retention (check out prices on the secondary). But if you've seen one that's been worn, the polished bezel and bracelet surfaces really show nicks and scratches.

+1 on the IP polished bezel being prone to hairline scratches. I assume that those wearing RO are pretty wrist aware regardless - but definitely the polished bezel can't be overlooked.

I'm in a business casual environment, and I can post some photos below of continual wear about 4x a week.

My one is totally fine. Needs a bit of wrist presence like any platinum watch.

But its not a daily wearer for me. Tbh even the RG Chrono would not be a daily for me - I have a 15500 and some Rolexes for that. I prefer/need to keep it low key at work.

That watch looks fine to me. Has some spotting on the bezel but that just needs cleaning properly.

Cant see any major issues at all? And not many hairlines either. Pretty good shape despite daily wear.

The leather is pretty thin and under a lot of pressure at the lugs and easily rips around the lugholes, did on mine and seen it many times, rubber is def the way to go, but I'd like an OEM one. The Hornback 42s are much sturdier as is the GP 44 strap.

I think a polished bezel would be too much for me, the brushed PM ones are worry enough, but while these will gather more marks it is offset by the fact you can polish out little marks yourself with cape cod, I've done it a few times on my Rolex PCLs but don't like to do it too often for integrity or any mishap.
