Got busted by Rolex
I bought a sky dweller because I just love the blue face and for everything it includes it's a great "bargin". Last month my dealer called me and said he had a Daytona. Well I can't afford to pay for 2 watches so I decided to sell sky dweller. I posted it on craigslist and ebay. I didn't post any number or card. Someone bought my watch from ebay. Yesterday my ad calls me saying Rolex contacted them about me flipping the watch and they are pissed. They want me to return the watch or the profit I made from it. The dealer said after the Daytona watch I can't buy any Rolexes from them and Rolex has put that dealer on a list.

Wait, what?
Your AD called you asking for you to either return the watch you have already sold or pay them the profit? I'm sorry, but that doesn't sound right. |

Still don’t get how 1. You are meant to give them cash and be honest about what profit you made (how will they register that on the books..?) and 2. Why on Earth they are offering to sell you the most sort after SS model in the entire range when you have just apparently caused them some major grief by getting them put on this ominous ‘list’ |

Strange. The usual gray market flippers seem to have no problem finding stock. |

You may lose the ability for further purchases from that one dealer but just buy from a trusted seller. As far as profit or any obligation after sales, they can go pound sand. How do they legally expect to shake you down for that money?? Laughable.

Looks like Rolex has employed the Russian troll farms to scare people online from selling their watches.

How exactly do they expect you to return a watch you have already sold? As for giving them the profit, that's called a donation. How do they clear that on the books? I can't even fathom the moxie of a business making such a request of its customer, no matter the perceived violation of trust. Assuming this is a legit story (and that's a big assumption), someone at your dealer is in dire need of a cranial proctologist.

I don't really believe this. First of all, selling a watch in order to buy another one is a perfectly legit thing to do - people do this ALL the time in fact. Second, how much time passed between when you sold the watch and when you were contacted by the AD about selling it? I ask because for them to find even find out about it would mean the person that bought it did some kind of inquiry, presumably to Rolex since it's unlikely that they knew where you got it from, and then Rolex contacts the AD who then contacted you about it… all in the course of what, a week or two? And unless he sent the watch into them, they wouldn't know for sure that you even sold it… I don't know, it just sounds sketchy to me.

Don’t know whether to believe the OP or not. I do know (based on feedback from major Chicago area AD) that Rolex does audit and will do random purchasing of grey market watches to trace back to original ADs.

This doesn't sound legit. Since many flipped their watches for profit, most AD should be shutdown by now. But the fact is Rolex doesn't really care by manufacturing most their watches to be DJ/TT/PM.

Wait, let me get this straight.
You bought a SD blue dial. You then flipped arguably the hardest to find SS model. Your AD found out because they got in trouble by Rolex Corporate. Now they're going to allow you to buy at retail an equally hard to find SS Daytona. But then after that, you're cut off? Na, not buying it. |

So basically what your saying is , You bought a watch from a AD decided to sell it on & your AD calls you to advise that Rolex still own the watch after you paid for the watch & legally it's yours to do as you will . If this is true & it happened to me ,I don't think I could stop laughing at your ADs daft antics .

This just doesn't sound right and I agree with most of the above...
How can they expect you to just hand over money to them? Maybe you could have offered to sell the Sky Dweller to your AD as a trade-in for the Daytona but it's your watch and it's yours to do with as you please |
