I have only just discovered the Panerai brand, don't really know much about it. How do they compare against a Rolex or Omega? I like the leather straps, and clear case back's that they offer.

Are they Italian or Swiss made? How does one compare againist a Submariner?

It's company heritage is Italian, but the watches are produced in Switzerland.

Be Carefull.... They are awesome - and it is likely that you will want one! I love Rolex, Omega and I definitely love PAM! Take a look at panerai.com also paneristi.com and of course this site!

I too am in the learning process with this watch...just bought my first one a few days ago. I own a Sub and love it but the PAM will make you look at watches in an entirely different way IMO. They feel great and the more I read up on them, the more pleased I am with my purchase! The PAM 111 I bought is awesome

All I can suggest is to have fun with it and don't feel rushed. Look around a lot, find GTG's and you'll see the one you want.

You can be like Mike (mjtql), but one on the spot the first time you ever see one, and reach the same conclusion I did over many, many months! I guess Mike is just smarter than me.

Great watches. I purchased a 104 last week and I love it. A lot of PAMs are ETA movement. They also have their own "Panerai" movements which increases the price substantially when purchasing one of their inhouse movements. ETA is a wonderful movement and has stood the test of time. Great watches you won't be disappointed, the only problem are the straps, you get the first one and after that you want another one and another one and it keeps going

Amazing watches! I just bought mine not too long ago and having been a Rolex and Omega guy for so long it came as a real surprise to me that I stopped wearing my Sub. It just didn't feel right and it looked too small after wearing the 111 so I sold my Sub last week and haven't regretted it at all.

Rolex, Patek, Audemars & Panerai have all of the above.

For Panerai, it's the maker or Luminor & Radomir case & crown guard to allow military applications diving since 1930s for Italian & Egyption Navy.

It's mainly used during WW2 by Italian Navy's Seal commando unit XaMas Flotila squadron that sink many ships.

No other brand can claim to have this heritage.
Today all Panerai models are model after the older models during WW2.
And they continue to break tradition, norms, technology barriers.....

I think Panerai is the only major brand that do not allow or need official brand ambassador nor the need to sponsor any sports event.
