It's all a scam

Went to an ad in the tri state, of course no ss sport models on display

After a bit of chit chat they admitted that the ss models are being held in the vault, it's all available but you need to purchase a PM and you can then pick your ss of choice, all with no discount

OP i think this is interesting as this is the first time i have heard of these exact terms. i.e. we have all ss, buy pm, you get opportunity to buy one ss, all at MSRP.

were this regime in place everywhere, this would be a huge improvement on the current state of affairs (which for me is dribs and drabs of diamond dial DJ etc).

i went looking for a smurf in jan of his year. not a pm sports model available in all sydney rolex ads.

This is a disappointed truth that everybody know, you wanna buy this, you take these too. The game was only between AD and brand. But ADs are business men, they make profit from this, as long as there are people aceepting the rule for getting hot model, this game will continue, even there is only one customer who does.

I have been seeing some grey dealer offering dozens of sports model every week with ridiculous prices. I don't know if AD held watches in vault, but I believe most AD only willing doing business with grey market or their VIP. Nowaday there is almost zero chance you can walk in and get a ss model you want. Either you go for precious metal or go for other brands. Rolex is hot, nice, precise, very good watch, but it's just rolex, there are many other better choice if you really want a nice watch, not a brand.

And do not try to judge this game, there are people from related business will stand out and tell you some sxxt, like I was told by a grey dealer "you think it's too pricy for one single piece? no, it's because you are not rich enough, this is the game, you want in, you pay."

So, spend what, $40.000 in order to "qualify" / purchase a SS piece?

Tommy Rot!

I'm no Gordon Gekko, or even Howard Hughes but that don't make a whole lotta economic sense. In fact, it's -as many have said in past posts - it's almost extortion. I'd call it ridiculous myself.

This has been going on a while now and I think it's down to: Pony up if ya want the watch.

Now, if Rolex has any part of this ridiculous behaviour, I'd be surprised. Shocked really. If it were me, I'd a smiled politely, said "Good Morrow to you sir," and and walked the hell out.

This is indeed a well-worn topic but dems da rules. The entire situation is ridiculous. Be patient, cozy-up to a couple of AD's and you'll probaby, maybe, Hopefully you'll get the watch.

" AD Bundling " PM is your discount on a SS or if you want a PM ,the SS is the discount on your PM or if you want both, you get both

There are no vaults to hide all these SS models. There are SS models in vaults waiting for next in line, as for some it might take a few weeks to get to AD fo pickup.

Saw a smurf in the window of AD yesterday, Ghent Belgium. Not much help for you, but they 'are' around.

Yes...the story is dragging out a bit. Plain and simple fact, and I think people are going to be left simply to put up with it, one option being to go with Tudor. Great watch and no conditions attached to purchase......yet.

It's all a scam

Sorry to say but this is old news- but I wouldn’t generalize what this AD said to all ADs, nor would I attribute these practices to Rolex the company . I suspect there are more ADs holding hot SS models in the back (nothing sleezy about this IMO- why put out a watch that is already basically sold) than there are those with overt policies of bundling (which IS sleezy IMO). Was in my AD A few days ago just to chat and there was nothing “hot” in the safe- anything hot that comes in has either been allocated ahead of time or sold to someone on a list within days. This also includes some PM prof models. That’s just the reality of the current situation of supply vs demand. Sucks to be a casual or first time Rolex SS buyer unless you want a datejust.

Easy to get one, it’s not a $20 Casio, we are still talking about a 9k SS watch! Outside of this bubble 9k is a lot of money, at least for me. So there are the WIS then people that make comments on how they are glad everyone with 9k can’t get one and those are the folks that buy for status and play right into the typical Rolex owner stigma that turns so many off to the brand.

ADs have to bundle otherwise they won't make Rolex happy. No good stock if they don't sell out from their other lines of selection. Also these aren't breaking the rules... No rules against bundling. No rules against discounting either.

Why do people make such a big deal out of the dealers? There are plenty of new watches on the grey market. Pay the premium and done deal.

Beating the dead horse over and over again.

Having said that, not all ADs are the same. I recently got the call for an LV and I wasn’t asked to bundle a PM with it.
YMMV

This is only true to a small extent. There are not vaults full of these watches however they do flow them pretty regularly.

Just last week walked into my AD and found a Smurf in the case, walked out with Smurf and Pepsi!
