Trustworthy pre-owned dealers in China

Hi, I’m new here and it’s a pleasure to meet you all!

Since it’s my first post, here comes a quick introduction. I’m French and I’m a long time watch enthusiastic, but haven’t had the chance to own any fine watch so far as I’ve been a student until last year and preferring to invest my money in other sorts of things (travels... ) rather than luxury timepieces. However this time is now over, and as I have now entered a more suitable financial situation, I’m intending to turn my haute horlogerie dreams into reality by purchasing the very first piece of my watch collection! And I quite naturally opted for a Rolex, and more specifically for a Submariner, model I’m totally in love with

Now here is my question for you guys. I’m currently expatriated in China for work, and I live partly in Hong Kong and partly in Mainland China (Jiangsu and Shanghai) depending on what my business requires.
I already visited quite a few AD stores in the cities I live in, but as you would expect, it’s absolutely impossible to find any stainless steel sport model, and worse than this, most of them didn’t even agree to consider adding me to a waitlist. So I’m going to start looking at the preowned market, and I would like to know if some of you knew any trustworthy dealers here in Jiangsu, Shanghai or HK.

Thanks a lot in advance for your feedback!

Buy your watch in Hong Kong. Big selection in small area. I suggest you forget about SS sport watch and get a basic Date Just which won’t have a big premium. Also consider a TT Sport watch if you must have that.
If you are young, start slowly and wait for the market to calm down.
Since you’re in China, you probably understand the value of patience.
Bon chance.

I’m curious about the HK market, might be making a trip there soon. Also what constitutes an expat vs immigrant? Curious, as I’ve heard the term a couple times here on the board.

Thanks for your answers guys!

I’m afraid my first piece really has to be a Sub
And for several reasons.
Firstly, I’ve been dreaming of this watch (the 116610) for so long that it’s got to be the first piece of my collection.
Secondly, I’m a hunter. For me, half of the pleasure in the process of purchasing a “rare” item lays in the hunt. So I don’t mind having to be patient and spending time on the search. Just the opposite, I enjoy it.
Thirdly, it’s going to be the biggest amount of money I spend in my life (so far), and for this reason I want to spend it on an item that holds its value in time. Buying an asset* rather than a liability makes me feel more comfortable about it and I kind of like the investment aspect of it.

*Ok I know it’s no real asset as it doesn’t create a cash-flow but I haven’t found a better term to describe this yet

I believe an expat is just someone who currently lives outside of his home country, whereas an immigrant is someone who’s intending to permanently settle in another country, which then becomes their new home country. My home country is France and it’s not going to change anytime soon. I’m not going to “immigrate” to China, I just stay here now for business and because I have a lot of fun here
It’s just my personal perception of it haha, if someone has a more accurate definition of these terms I’d be glad to hear it too

Hi, you just have to be patient. Forum members with relevant knowledge will eventually see your request here and respond. In the meantime, you could try searching on the main Rolex discussion forum. In recent weeks, there have been a series of posts by TRF member InitialAndPitch regarding his adventures in Hong Kong. Definitely worth a read. Regards, -Rick.
