Is the Rolex Datejust an sporty or a classic watch ?

In my opinion is a classic watch, not only the vintage ones but the new models too
What do you think ?
Regards

Depends how it complements what else you’re wearing.

Would say it's more of a classic watch, that doesn't mean I would only wear it as such.

I'll go with Classic, in the sense that it can be worn with almost anything when you're doing almost anything. Obviously, it has limits, but as a daily, I wouldn't hesitate to wear it.

41 - sporty
36 - classic

Fluted tends to dress up the 41, smooth does not.

Go to the Rolex site. They define by two categories, professional and classic. Both DJs are in the classic category.

The only truly sport Datejust is the II

All the rest are dress watches IMO

The II is more of a sport/dress hybrid

For some reason the 41 on a jubilee with the smooth bezel looks rather sporty to me. I think that's been reinforced by them putting the jubilee on the GMT line.

I have the DJ 41 with Jubilee -- I think it's a sporty classic. Can go nicely with jeans or a suit.

The Teo words together don’t apply?
A classic sporty watch.

...it doesn't matter.

The important thing is how you use it. The Datejust fits perfectly

IMO- DJ is more than just a classic but it’s an icon in Rolex history. People all over the world who don’t know much about Rolex but they recognize the DJ.

I also think fluted on Jubilee is a totally different watch than smooth on Oyster.

Never mind a Datejust, you can get away with wearing a Day Date everyday IMO. A DJ looks good with pretty much everything, Suit, jeans and a polo or shorts and t shirt. I wouldn’t stress over what pigeon hole you think people put the watch in, wear it and enjoy it.
