Confused about model numbers for DJ36??

Recently purchased a DJ36 116234 but have been seeing the model number 126234 online and even for sale on Jazztime. Can anyone provide some clarity on this? Assuming it's the newer model coming? It is available though?

Thank you...

I figured. Are these available already through some online retailers or is that a wait too?

I assume the updates will be the movement and slightly different dial to remove the romans and railroad?

When did you buy 116234? What month?

The 126234 is more stylish and has the new movement 3235

10 days ago from a local AD. I have a new DJ41 myself. I wanted to buy my GF a gift and she picked out the correct DJ36 and loves it.

Theoretically it has an improvement with the new caliber. I would file a complaint and try to change it.

I was not aware before I purchased it but after was told it's discontinued. I am not upset about it as the GF is happy and doesn't even care about these things. I do though.

Is this worth a complaint? I should take some responsibility for being unaware of new models though right? Where do you even complain?

I don't know how it works in Canada, but in Europe we have in each country a Centre responsible for the distributors of the rest of the country. I would put a complaint there, and if they don't solve it you could write to Rolex Switzerland.

We do not really have this in Canada. What matters is that she loves it and she does. But too be honest I am slightly miffed I was not really advised before I paid for it and she had it on her wrist. I am not well versed in Rolex and am new to this brand and luxury watches.

If she's happy and she likes it, that's what matters. It's a great watch, but your dealer acted very badly.

Have to say I'm actually not a great fan of what Rolex have done with the baton dial on the 3235 iteration of the DJ36. The batons have grown larger, the 'railroad' seconds track has gone... it's altered the geometry of the dial, such that it looks much more like a miniaturised DJ41. I thought the old baton dial was more refined.

I do like the narrower lugs on the 126XXX series, however.

She loves it. She's a typical girl with respect to just enjoying it for what it is and not worried about movements or minor things. She loves the look and the gift. We looked at the DJ34 and I ruled it out. We looked at the OP with smooth bezel etc but I pushed her towards this combo. I personally loved the jubilee with hidden clasp and the roulette date wheel.

Here is a photo.

From what I have learned since starting this thread is the updates are so minor to 99% of people. I am personally an untrained eye with regards to Rolex and just like what looks good... which in my opinion is pretty much their entire line up.

You get the super jubilee with the 116234 and that is a big plus compared to the new release

I agree, the hidden clasp is not included on the 126234. Minor changes/updates on the DJ do not have the same impact as changes to SS Pro sport models. Enjoy!

Well, good news is that the new one doesn’t have the hidden clasp, so chances are you whoever picked this one anyway

Listen, be very happy that you bought the 116234 and not the 126234. While the new one has the 70 hr 3235 movement, in my opinion it looks worse. I do not like the new dials nor the lack of the elegant concealed clasp.

If anyone wants a new Rolex with a concealed clasp now, their only choice is to buy a Day-Date or a Lady Datejust with the president bracelet and those cost 4x time the price of a steel Datejust.

You should be thankful that they still had a 116234 instead of the 126234. The new movement is nice but I also prefer the railroad tracks and smaller batons of the 116234, and of course, the super jubilee. Beautiful watch, enjoy it!

i think as long as you GF enjoys the watch then that is all you need to know. and you like the super jubilee and roulette date wheel so if that is the case the new DJ36mm wouldn't have those features. Also need to add untrained eye or not... no one will really care or comment

As for not knowing about the new references.... Yes, the AD should have mentioned it but I do think if you're spending almost $5k-$10k on a watch you should be an informed buyer. At the end of day it is on you and do some research. Given the internet the over abundance of resources on the net and many with videos there's just no excuse.

That said..... Congrats that is a nice blue dialed DJ (or whatever dark color dial that is)

3235 MOVEMENT

The calibre 3235 is a new-generation movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. This self-winding mechanical movement is at the forefront of the art of watchmaking. A consummate demonstration of Rolex technology, with 14 patents, it offers fundamental gains in terms of precision, power reserve, resistance to shocks and magnetic fields, convenience and reliability. It incorporates the new Chronergy escapement patented by Rolex, which combines high energy efficiency with great dependability. Made of nickel-phosphorus, it is also insensitive to magnetic interference.

I’m excited for the day that Grey Dealers post 116234s for twice the MSRP

Just kidding

I don’t think that will ever happen, but the super jubilee has its pros

Fits the 116610, the 116710 and probably other watches

I like the hidden clasp, and it is now gone except for more expensive watches

I talked to the person I bought from tonight about the timing of informing me of newer models. It’s all good. She likes it and that’s all that matters.

For her she originally liked the large roman dials but upon looking I moved her away from this. The railroad track and tiny romans and the concealed clasp where good for her. The roulette wheel is something I find unique and different. The latest and greatest under the hood is always nice but I do have confidence in the previous movement.

I had a horrible buying experience when I bought my personal DJ and I chose another AD while shopping with the Girlfriend. The service was utterly night and day and we came back 3 times before walking out with it. The only part I wish was discussed with me was a new model was coming before it was on her wrist and we decided on this combo and model. How could I take it off her wrist and tell her to wait now?

The troubling thing was we went to 3 AD's that day and not one mentioned the new model coming................ not 1.

Not that he's coming, the new DJ is already available. 3 weeks ago I saw a 126234 in my AD.

Okay I was told to expect September.

The experience was just poor for a first Rolex purchase. I was not expecting red carpet but a simple smile and hello would have been nice. I called 4 stores and found something I was interested in. Drove all the way there and had to wait a few mins and looked around the store. I listened to one employee speaking horribly to what appeared to be an assistant. I actually asked her what happened and she said he was just stressed. I later read the reviews of the store and they were not positive and many mentions of the one person who was tearing into a staff member.

Moving along I was dressed for the gym as I was coming from there and honestly probably didn’t seem like a real buyer. I tried on a whole bunch but did feel pressure to get the process moving forward. I am impulsive as they come and buy on a whim so when something is right I buy and am gone. Anyways, the whole feeling at this store was just wrong... I felt as if I was bothering them too be honest. After I bought my watch I noticed they adjusted the sale price upwards by a few dollars to get to an even round number after tax. A few bucks doesn’t bother me but how about rounding down to achieve the same result. To me, this was very unacceptable to even be selling a few dollars over MSRP from Rolex. I feel this was based on not having a relationship with the AD and maybe looking like a bum. I learned at a young age when working in commercial finance that the guy in a plaid shirt and jeans driving an F150 could own a multi million $ electrical company. Was this me? No... but I can afford this watch and what ended up being 2 in one month.

After I bought my Girlfriends Rolex I went back to the place I bought mine for a bracelet adjustment and they noticed hers right away and someone asked if I bought there. I said definitely not. I have a submariner in mind now and the AD I purchased the girlfriends will get this sale.

Very nice Datejust. This Datejust if you have the new movement 3235.
A watch for life.
