Will we see a two-tone Explorer some day?

First, I was very surprised, pleasantly so, at the Sea-Dweller release. Yes, Rolex had the Sub in TT, but the Sea Dweller was supposed to be the “working” watch, shouldn’t have gold on a working watch; surprise! IMHO, I think it is a winner, and doesn’t take away from the “working” watch reputation.

OK, so what about the Explorer? That too, is a “working” watch. You wear it while you are exploring caves or climbing mount Everest. So.... will it also be offered in Gold someday? Either TT or even an AG version?

Would it be a success?

It's coming out in platinum with PCL's. The SS will be discontinued. Look for it at Basel in 2021.

Would be the antithesis of the Explorer DNA.

I hope not. The Explorer/Explorer II line is the one toolish stalwart level in the Sports lineup. I think they should let the EXPs be.

I think if SS watches continue to be unobtainable you will see TT everything.

not for the current design, it won't look good in TT.

who knows after the new release, didn't happen before though. But not for SD either.

I hope we don't. I dislike what has become of the Sea-Dweller. I understand the desire the size it up to draw a greater contrast to the Submariner. Likewise, I think it was smart to scale up the Explorer II to draw contrast with the GMT-Master II. Unfortunately, offering the Sea-Dweller in two-tone has sort of positioned the piece as simply "the bigger Submariner" or "the super-sized Submariner." I get Rolex has evolved into a luxury brand from its tool origins, but I thought there was something cool about particular models being offered only in steel. I think it's great you can only get the Milgauss or either Explorer in steel. I do not think the Explorer II should ever be offered in another metal nor do I think a ceramic bezel should be added. The stainless steel bezel is a hallmark design cue.

I just don't see the need to make every Rolex piece uniform in look and layout. It's why I still prefer the straight hands of the older YMIIs. If we make everything homogeneous, all that's left is a collection of identical watches with no real identity. It's very clear what the Sea-Dweller is now; it's just a larger Submariner when it never had to be.

Please no. Climbing the world's tallest peak with TT or PM Explorer would be so gauche.

With Rolex de-emphasis its SS sport watches and moving toward the TT/PM, I believe a TT version of this watch is possible. And I'm not surprised if Rolex terminates other less popular SS watches.

I would not mind a white dial Explorer. I mean the Explorer II has both dials.
