If you couldn't have a Submariner, what would be your next choice?

Hypothetically, if you couldn't have a Submariner, what watch would be your next choice? Clearly there are some other Rolex's that have similar styling, but I was mostly curious about other brands you guys like in the dive watch family.

He did, a Submariner has no date, i.e. 114060. The 116610 is the Submariner date.

I’ve never referred to any of my Submariner (dates) as anything other than just Submariner.
Do others actually say Sub date etc when talking about their watch?

He didn’t mention any specific numbers outlining which model though.

Technically, yes (though this from a 114060 owner )

Yes, two different watches, at least to the WIS.
Submariner. Or Submariner Date.

I guess a Tudor BB58 or something, or a Pelagos, but there's a huge quality difference between a Tudor and a Rolex (I know from experience, had a BB58 and sold it).

That's the closest competitor. An Omega is nice, but doesn't fill the same niche. An Omega is a great tool watch but it doesn't carry the same cache as a Rolex. A Submariner is famously fitting both on a dive boat and in a board meeting, but a Planet Ocean can't do both. Similar story with a TAG Aquaracer. They're nice too, but a LOT cheaper, so it'd be more of a beater/tool watch. Great for the dive boat, but not great at dinner.

Maybe a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms would be a good Submariner substitute.

Try telling that to James Bond !
He wears his whatever he’s wearing or where he’s at.

Correction, Daniel Craig is wearing it whenever he is, and that's because Omega is paying him to do so.

I'd gladly wear a Planet Ocean all the time if Omega wanted to pay me, too!

It was a tongue in cheek comment, obviously I know Omega pay for the product placement in the Bond franchise.
My point was that 007 wears his sports Omega whether he’s in casual attire, or at a casino dressed in a tux.

If I were staying in the Rolex brand, probably the Explorer I.

I think you picked this one because it looks like a Rolex. I have never liked the snowflake or lollipop hour hand that Tudor put on this watch at different times.

Well I think the idea of the thread was if you couldn't get a Rolex Submariner so....

That color is simply amazing though. Tudor would sell the HELL out of these if they put a new blue Sub out.

I live the triangular markers so much too. It's just a beautiful piece.

5513 & 114270

Ive only felt really happy with my 5513 and other than a brief affair with a 1980's Seiko dive watch I've not been drawn to any others.

If its due to funds or availability then have a look at the 114270 Explorer, its something I also own and enjoy and happy to recommend.
