Rolex robbery in Singapore - caught on cctv

One young chap ran away with two rolexes worth about $110k in a robbery.

Better be safe folks. This could even happen in low-crime Singapore. Rolex is really a hot commodity now.

So a chancer robbed a store. Why do we need to be anymore careful? He didn’t mug anyone at gun or knifepoint! Talk about melodrama!!

Lol “his life is over” , only a snatch and run , probably come under some sort of theft . What he done was morally wrong and I don’t condone it , but that’s what happens when you have no security measures in place . "We are all operating small shops here, we can't afford to hire a security guard for every shop," Maybe they shouldn’t be so frugal and hire one , they are selling diamond encrusted Rolex’s after all .

One other thing - it wasn’t a robbery. It was straightforward theft. Robbery is accompanied by the use of force, threat of force or striking fear into a victim.

To steal is to take something without the owner realizing it. To rob is to remove it from the owner who is well aware of it with or without violence. No?

Robbery is the crime of taking or attempting to take anything of value by force, threat of force, or by putting the victim in fear. According to common law, robbery is defined as taking the property of another, with the intent to permanently deprive the person of that property, by means of force or fear; that is, it is a larceny or theft accomplished by an assault.[1]

What you are describing is know as “Strongarm Robbery” in the U.S. Theft and robbery are synonymous here.

I’ve never heard of the US! Is it somewhere of any significance?

In the USA:

The crime from what I read was definitely a theft and not a robbery, based on 37 years experience.

Rolex robbery in Singapore - caught on cctv

More like a snatch and run! Just a lowlife snatch thief. He stole one LV and a SARU. The crime happened on a Wednesday, June 12 at about noon Singapore time. By the way, the name of the shop is HJ Watches at Far East plaza @ Scotts Road.

The perpetrator worn a fake Rolex into the shop. The sales assistant took 2 watch for him to try. According to reports, his fingerprints are all over the glass counter. He can hide but he can’t run in Singapore.

I've been in that shop before, its quite a small shop with no door.
However its very surprising as crime in Singapore is very low, this guy is in a lot of trouble when the police catch up with him.
Although Singapore has caning as a judicial punishment along with imprisonment, sadly caning is not a punishment for 'theft'.
Caning is a punishment for 'robbery' but for robbery there must be in connection with the theft the attempt, threat of or actual infliction of bodily harm.

I hope the shop owner gets his watches back and an appropriate punishment is imposed.

I wonder how much concern there would have been if the thief had stolen a couple of TAG Heuer’s!!

The military would get involved and martial law would commence until those Tags were returned. The order to shoot to kill would be issued too, lucky he only stole Rolex's.

I am certain he will be caught soon. No thief escapes from the island!
I am actually surprised no one tackled him while he was running out of Far East Plaza. Maybe 12 noon on a Wednesday is not the busiest time.

Crime in Singapore isn't as low as the government would have you think. They hush it up.
