Went into local AD...

I walked into one of the ADs in the mall this weekend was looking for a piece for my wife. I started talking watches with the guy and explained that it’s been so hard to find anything for myself because no AD has any decent models up for grabs (and no waiting lists) he promised that “if I buy the TT DJ 36 for my wife, they will put a note on my profile for some exclusive pieces”

I find this hard to believe as I can imagine people spend tons of $$ and definitely have priority for those pieces (sky dweller TT, GMT, sea dweller, etc.)

Do you guys think he’s full of it and just trying to get me to buy something? Or genuinely saying that I’ll be considered for something (this was manager btw) and I also mentioned that I heard you need to spend big bucks to get anything decent to which he replied “not necessarily”

Is it worth it to spend extra $$ on a not so desirable piece to be promised some sort of hope?

I wouldn't play that game with gifts for my wife. Unless the TT DJ 36 is unequivocally the exact thing she wants.

Edit: I also would not put much weight on his comment. Bit of a limp promise.

She likes the TT DJ with green dial and diamond Roman, but I want to get her something stainless so she can wear it constantly without worry.

I agree though it was somewhat of a loose promise even though he said to the associate to put notes in my profile if I purchase this DJ (or anything really I think he just wanted a sale lol)

Sir, let me assure you that if you buy this item, I will make an indication in our records that you are a wise and valued customer for further consideration of potential future beneficial offers of product should they become available.

In other words, he promised you absolutely nothing.

Well I can tell you from experience, I bought my wife a TT DJ Diamond bezel and MOP dial because she was so in love with it she had to have it. After I paid for the watch I said anything for me in SS sport. I got we'll let you know when something comes in. That was 3 months ago. Not saying I won't get a call but....

So my advise is tell the manager when you have something in SS you can sell me, call me and I'll come in and buy both watches at the same time. Keep your money in your pocket until the goods are on the table!

Not really small they’re a Rolex boutique in a big mall. (Big city, the small ones tend to never have any stock on anything, and are very rude with people they don’t know) especially because I’m younger

Regardless cant hurt to buy and develop a sales history with them. Especially if its on your radar anyway.

Good luck

Agreed but honestly I’d only purchase with a legitimate promise or opportunity that I’d be able to get something for myself aswell soon, possibly leave a deposit for something. But they all play games lol when will it stop!!!

It will eventually when everyone does what you did, not give in.

The only thing you will have is a purchase and hence maybe priority over those who are yet to make a purchase. Nevertheless, you will still be a bottom feeder in that AD

Tell him that sounds good and to let you know when the piece you want arrives, and you'll buy them both at the same time.

It's a verbal promise that's about it, I don't give too much weight into it.

I was very close to doing this for the same reasons on a SS black diamond dial DJ 36 for my wife. Then realized that though she’s down for a Rolex, she hasn’t really been pushing for one and that I’m better off not spending the 12k on a watch for her lol

If it guaranteed me a hot piece I’d be all over it! But I’m certain it won’t guarantee anything and anyone buying full gold pieces will be ahead in the hot model allocation

Hahaha! Honestly he took me in the PM room and there was a couple holy grails, way out of my budget but surprising for the area.

He tells me you never know you buy something you speak with the owner maybe he’ll be able to get you something 😂 a-holes.

On the exact same page here. She’s not really bugging me but I bring it up (stupid I know) more so looking for something for me (duh) and there’s people out there that buy multiple PM pieces.

One day when we all stop giving in maybe the ADs will need us and not vice versa.

I’m just looking for an in at this point but it feels like you’re chasing a false dream

Only purchase as a package all at once. Otherwise you are wasting money that could be useful elsewhere.

Your first mistake was “but”...

Get her what she wants.

I bought my wife a few wonderful pieces, not really thinking or caring if I got on a list, or VP status, or even establishing a relationship with the AD. Then one day I went in looking around (for my wife again) and asked if they had a Hulk. They said no, but will keep me in mind. 4 months later I got a call if I was still interested... I was out of town, and they held it for me for a week till I got back. That’s when it was in crazy demand, and they could have said they needed to move it to the next customer “in line”.

And besides, that TT is plenty tough.
